If memory serves, those were called the mythical national championship. So if that floats your boat, who am I to disagree with you?
I just know that LSU was the college national champ, and there's no dispute.

You don't believe that.

Moss has more than enough grades to be admitted. I think it’s just a formality. He’s loaded up in classes the past couple years and could graduate now and enroll in college in August if he wanted to. But he wants to play his senior year more than anything. Let's correct something: But he wants to play his senior year for a mythical national championship more than anything.
If the original statement was true, we wouldn't be having this conversation. And I'll bet my hat he's gone in January. The biggest irony would be if CIF delays the start of football until January, and Miller Moss bolts early for USC as planned, leaving Mater Dei with no one at QB under the modified schedule.

You don't believe that. I do actually. You had coaches and writers voting for teams they may have seen only once. The field was tilted to the east. I'm a huge fan of the playoffs, and think you and MD have been in the top 3-4 teams in the country near as I can tell...but I haven't seen the others against you.

I’m a huge fan of playoffs as well, just not in high school. The logistics don’t make sense. Leave that to the big boys.

I’m a huge fan of playoffs as well, just not in high school. The logistics don’t make sense. Leave that to the big boys. National HS playoffs 1. Top 8 teams ranked, and seeded by MaxPreps 2. 4 teams travel, then 2, then 2 at a neutral stadium 3. Missing school on Thursday / Friday for travel teams handled via virtual teaching that seemed to be OK the past few months. 4. There should be sponsors willing to fund this without much trouble. I think travel cost around $50k per team? 5. No extra games being played - they compete in the national tournament after the regular season following a bye. What problematic logistics would I be missing? 2019 National Championship Opening matchupsw/ calpreps projected score #1 SJB v. Corner Canyon Utah (42-24) #4 North Shore Tx v. Aquinas FL (30-31) #3 St Francis MD v. Duncanville Tx (31-21) #2 MD v. #7 IMG (38-24) Instead, in our Div 1 opening round playoffs we were treated to SJB edging out Calabasas 63-7, and MD squeaking by Bishop Amat 63-23. How fun!

I think the financial aspect would be difficult for some. Might cut some of the non-conference out of state games we like to see.
8 teams would also be too much. Teams would be looking at close to 16-17 games?
For fans, this would be great.

I agree, Kupp. Too much travel, too much missed class time and too much cost is way too much to pay just to gratify a bunch of high school football nerds. I'd love to see a return to winning a section championship being the ultimate achievement.

Why not compete at that level? Isn't beating everyone by 5 TD's getting a little old? Thought you'd be all over it.

Why not pull those teams out for the national tournament instead of the playoffs in their state? I don't mind the arguing about who was better but if you really want to play for a national championship, go for it.

That's the idea SM. I'm pretty sure the coaches and players at Los Al would rather be playing for a real national title instead of kicking everyone's ass at the section or state level, and then hoping they got more votes than the #2 team so they could call themselves a "national" champ.
But that's just me.

This is the only Natty we should worry about:

I’m old school and the main goal every season is a CIF Southern Section championship. State championships are nice but I only uncork a bottle of champagne for the Southern section. Having a national tournament is of no appeal to me. Logistically it will never happen either for countless reasons. Although I do like that MD and Bosco have played national schedules the past few years. lf MD or Bosco does what was proposed for a national tournament and they lose, at the end they have nothing to show for the season.... no Southern section or state title even though they may be the best teams in Cali. I have also lived in Texas and I can tell you that their state tournament is more important to them than any national tournament ever would be. Those of us who frequent these boards live in a bubble when it comes to high school football. There is not much appetite for this outside of nerds like us.
