Looks like we've got some real data we can get our heads around regarding the 2 different approaches. Sweden went the herd immunity route, and Japan went mask and wait. Early results had Sweden spiking early, but now is showing a clear downward trend. Sweden Covid trackerJapan was diligent with masks, as most Asians in OC are, and they quickly saw the # of cases drop from May thru June...and they opened back up. Flash forward to today, and their case #'s are worse than when they started. Japan Covid trackerIn the US, South Dakota went the herd route, and seems to be tracking along with Sweden South Dakota CovidIn Orange County, we shut down and had a limited # of cases, then spiked higher than the early going when we opened back up...just like Japan. Any bets on what happens when we open back up again? |

@bick its why I have said from the get go HERD IMMUNITY or VACCINE one or the other the rest is fodder... you can't stop MOTHER NATURE or GOD or what ever force you want to label a virus.

Haven't really had any clear stats of the 2 different approaches. Results seem indisputable.

My concern is when we open back up again...the #'s will spike again What Sweden shows is that shutdowns have virtually little or no effect on the virus, other than delay the onset of herd immunity. Perpetuating these measures is only perpetuating the active lifespan of COVID, while weakening the immune system. Bad health policy, and even worse economic and social consequences--which in turn have terrible effects on people's health. |

Like global warming (if there actually is) you can only do so much, make so much difference in something so large, so powerful, act of God or Mother Nature. The idea that mankind, humans and in this case POLITICIANS think they can control all this is ludicrous. Even with those whom had some good intentions and concerns, they were mostly all proven wrong and left the economy, peoples finances and mental states in jeopardy causing far more harm than any virus ever could. This will go down in history as magnus error saeculum. |

Corona virus is real,
People actually do catch it and some have symptoms, some of those will require hospitalization.
The hysteria is manufactured by the politicians and perpetuated by the media.
We have nothing to fear but fear, itself...

The Japan's and Sweden's #'s continue to go in the opposite direction.
During the original onset back in Mar / Apr, the highest the 7 day moving average for Japan was 545, with a peak of 701.
Yesterday, the average was 937, with a new peak of 1,568.
Sweden's highest 7 day avg was 1,100 and a peak of 1,246 on June 26.
Yesterday, Sweden 7 day avg was 205, with 201 new cases reported.
What's odd is the # of Covid deaths being reported in Sweden being 5x more than Japan. Is the virus less deadly in Japan?

No, its just that Japanese people are shorter than the Swedes, so it takes 2 or 3 Japanese to equal the body mass of one Swede.

Also, the Japanese have slanted eyes, so it's harder for the virus to get in.

(b) My friends and I have always celebrated our lives by kidding each other about our racial and ethnic differences since we were kids. I'm not suddenly going to turn politically correct at this age. (c) If we can't tell it like it is, why bother posting? |
