On the bright side, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to have your consciousness raised, with people kneeling for the National Anthem, seeing "BLM" plastered on pitchers' mounds and political slogans on jerseys........................Luca

I do follow him... And asked him to start advocating to the powers that be to quit viewing a covid infection as a death sentence.

I remember telling you about The Kernel League: When our Summer Collegiate Baseball league, The Prospect League, cancelled its 2020 Summer season because of COVID, our local team owner brought together 4 teams, all populated by local college players, and formed the Kernel League (so named because it was born out of our local team, The Cornbelters).
They had a double header, 5 nights a week, so all four teams played, and “home/visitor” switched each game, and each team rotated through the other three teams nightly. This not only gave college players, who had not played all school year, a chance to play, but it also gave MLB scouts some place to scout, and, in fact, I saw scouts at almost every game.
so that Kernel League season ended 2 weeks ago and we started anticipating the 2021 Prospect League season.
fast forward to last week: the IHSA (Illinois High School Association, that governs all Illinois High School Sports) decided it would re-schedule all HS contact sports to a, presumably, less potential time to spread COVID, which meant, among other things, High School Football will not be our Fall sport this year: It has been rescheduled to begin end of February, 2021. Which triggered someone with a brain bigger than mine: He/She/They has/have resurrected the Kernel League
the Kernel League will play games (I’m not sure how many each week) from September through October, and the teams will be populated with local HIGH SCHOOL baseball players. This not only gives the players a chance to play in 2020, but it also gives the Prospect League a look at up-and-coming skill for future drafts.
i think that was a great idea.

One more thing about the Kernel League before I drop it (for now): The Championship game on August 9th. The Run UpIt was decided early on, the playoffs would be between the top three teams: #3 would play #2 in the “wild card” game, followed by the winner of that game playing #1 for the championship. The Cornbelters had held the #1 spot pretty much since the beginning of the season, with the Gems and the Bobcats trading off the #2 and #3 spots regularly. But in the last 2 weeks, two things happened: Cornbelters pitching faltered and Bobcats really hit their stride. Side note, only the Bobcats came to the Kernel League from another league that had halted their 2020 season and, so, were the only one of the four teams made up of players who had all played together the previous two years. So with just a couple games left in the regular season, the Bobcats took over first place and it really did come down to the final game, literally the final out, but the Cornbelters took it back. The ChampionshipThe poor Hoots just had a miserable season and were never in the playoff picture. The Wild Card game started at 5:00 and the Bobcats beat the Gems in that earlier game, 3-2, which gave them the playoff spot against Cornbelters. the Cornbelters pitcher threw us into a deep depression as he, David Platt is his name, gave up four runs to the Bobcats in the top of the first. But, then, he hit his groove and held them almost hitless until he was relieved in the third by Aaron Agee who nailed them down the rest of the way. The score remained 4-0 until the 4th when (Cornbelter) Alex Steinbach singled and stole second. Will Oberg’s single drove him in making it 4-1. Bottom of the 5th inning, with runners on 1st and 2nd, Brant Vanaman nailed a moonshot over the left field fence at about the 340 mark and the score was 4-4. That score remained through the top of the 7th inning. In the bottom of the 7th, MVP of the Kernel League, Alex Steinbach came up with 2 outs and Luke Cheng on 2nd and Kyle Sonerano on 3rd. Steinbach squeaks the third pitch between the third baseman and the bag and, as the ball comes to a stop inside the foul line, Kyle Soberano scores from 3rd. 5-4 Cornbelters, and the bench cleared: One of the best baseball games I’ve seen.
