The death rate from all causes in the US reversed a decades long downward trend beginning in 2008, and has accelerated in 2014. I'm not sure if it's meaningful in the discussion about Covid related deaths, but there doesn't seem to be an acceleration of the death rate because of it. My sense is the ageing of the population has a lot more to do with the acceleration of the death rate than anything else. US Death rate since 1950

I would need to see much more data and specifics on a graf like that to make any relative conclusion.... was there much of a study that accompanied this finding of yours Bick?
I think its obvious that an aging population in a time in history with a virus like Civid which targets that demographic surely has to be a catalyst to the means.

No study. Just raw data to observe and interpret.
The link will take you to the data source.
Another point I found interesting on that site was the relative death rate amongst the other countries. I keep hearing from a liberal guy I know how the Asians & Europeans have it all figured out. Japan death rate higher than ours. Go figure.

My instinct is that is a reflection of two things, Baby Boomers reaching senior citizen status and the birth rate dropping. We are adding older people and lessening the number of younger ones, which will result in the percentage of deaths being higher.

Japan death rate higher than ours. Go figure. I think RSM's analysis above explain this very well. Death rates are a function of many variables, and age of the population is one of the main ones. Japan is a geezer country and their death rate reflects that fact.

I was hoping this would show that the death rate remained close to the same trend regardless of this covid thing. Seems that way.
