It's too bad that this rubs off on a lot of wonderful teachers, while it is mostly their Union Bosses supporting these actions and the D party line. Certainly there are many great teachers, but polls indicate that about 70% of L.A.'s teachers support the position their union is taking. |

My daughter, who works in the Capo District would agree with that number, or it could be higher at her school!

Thanks, duke. I'll concede again that there are many dedicated, hard-working teachers, but I think the idol-worship many of us have of that profession is often misplaced. Almost every teacher I know will admit there are many more that are very happy to work six-hour days and get three months of vacation every summer. When you up that vacation time to 12 months, there are many who are even happier and will resist efforts to move back to normal.

I don't think so. So far, only the public school teachers have been doing that. All the more reason they should be kicked to the curb, rather than rewarding them with perpetual vacation pay. It could be a reward or curse. My goal isn't to curse or reward anyone. It is probably too late to really do anything about the education system anyway. |

I do think way too many parents think the public school is their 8 AM - 3 PM babysitter where they can throw their kid and forget about them. Shoot 'em full of Ritalin and don't worry what or if they're learning. |
