OK, its that time of year, or so we believe! There are still obvious and potential headwinds to this upcoming HSF season. Last go around MDDad attempted to start the pool and we just didn't coalasce or gel. That said, how many here would be interested. I wanted to get this out before the pigskin gets kicked around in the next couple days.
I would propose the following:
Each week one member selects 5 CIF-SS games. We can rotate on usernames going alphabetically. Each pool player during his week of selection can NOT pick his home team, alma mater. For those whom do not have affiliation, no worry. We all here obviously have too much inside team info on our own programs.
I am open to a PICK of the WEEK, that would count as 2 points/wins.
All spreads will be from Calpreps "projected match-up"
All games with even spreads bump up 1/2 point so NO ties.
Because there are insane spreads at the high school level, a spread of 35 or "Mercy Ruling" will not be a viable game selection.
I am open to ending the pool at end of season, running through CIF-SS playoffs or not. We could have two pools, regular season and playoff pool.
Covid, yes that virus and its inherent obstacles. My best calculation is that games get cancelled. What Covid policies do we have for the pool? Ideas, a game gets cancelled, then its out, no substitute. Another idea, game gets cancelled, member selecting games either picks a new game or each week we pick one alternate game that would fill any canceled game. Another option is pick a "default" team from CIF-SS that is the alternative team/game, automatically that teams match up is the substitute game. This area is open to any suggestions. Uncharted waters.
Each week selector must post his games by Tuesday 5 pm.
Pool Players must have their Thursday game pick(s) in by 5 pm Thursday, Friday and Saturday games by 5 pm Friday.
I just finished a glass of wine and lost my thought process. Gonna throw this up for feedback. I'll get back on my game.
Other thoughts, I'm only in if Frog is in.
Last but not least, should Gavin Newsom get recalled, ALL those whom entered will be deemed 2021 WINNERS!
*Should we vote yes to do this I will start by picking the 5 games tomorrow, each week after it will move to another player.

Look, Frog knew a lot more about HS football when he coached…
Anyways, I’m in.

I'm in, but a few observations:
1. Only five games? Seems like there would be a lot of people tied each week. Fourteen or fifteen like we used to do was too much work. How about ten?
2. The thirty-five point mercy rule limit will mean Bosco, Mater Dei and Servite will usually not be involved. Just for shits and giggles I put all 10 Servite games in that formula, and there were only three eligible games. Sierra Canyon, and the big two Trinity monsters (barely). The rest were between 44 and 62 point margins.
3. Tuesday at 5 pm seems a bit early to require the selector to have his choices in, unless some game(s) are on Wednesday. But I guess I can make that when it's my turn.

(I was trying to keep it simple, less time consuming, handicapping too many games. Yes the spread between the players points in standing will be closer, but I'v done this format before it works, 6 possible points a week.)2. (I have little interest in trying to figure if Team is is going to cover a 58 point spread, it isn't handicapping the least, its will or will not a coach stop the slaughter.) (* See my idea below) 3. Tuesday at 5 pm seems a bit early to require the selector to have his choices in, unless some game(s) are on Wednesday. But I guess I can make that when it's my turn. (Again Im open, what do you suggest? Tuesday gives one Sunday, Monday, Tuesday to pick 5 games of the week. Not all of us are here same time of day, I'm just not down with posting the 5 games day before game day.) * We could go with a more local approach, of the 5 games, 1 must be a Trinity game, 1 South Coast and 1 Sunset. This way we have at least one game from each major league in OC. The other two any CIF-SS must be one of the competitors. This way Fate if you really think its a challenge or fun to pick say MD (-) 68 vs Podunk Paper Tigers then that is your choice...! Again, I'm open, I think we should have at least 5 players to start....

OK, I ran a mock Week '0" w/ 5 games, a bit more of a challenge given the parameters but doable.
WEEK 0
Apple Vally @ Mission Viejo (+1.5) Foothill @ Cypress (+4.5) Newport Harbor @ Yorba Linda (+2.5) San Juan Hills (+33.5) @ Santa Margarita Upland (+1.5) @ La Habra
I tried to pick competitive games on paper with reasonable spreads. Next guy up can pick 3 or 4 TD games if they so choose.
Addressing Trinity point spread disparity, I looked at all games and went with the closet spread above, the others were OLU/JS at 34.5 points and Servite/Edison at 58.5. The SJB/Central Miami game is also 58.5 spread. now that we have intrastate games should those be in the pool?

Damn, that San Juan number is gnarly. you will get a lot of that in Trinity games.... I understand based on that, the high % of Trinity guys here, if you want to ditch any point spread limit/cap I'm ok with that.... I personally try and find even match ups more fun to pick... even with a cap at say 35 points, there will be plenty of Trinity match ups to enter each week....

@bick, you made picks already... are you good with the rules so far..., any input? 5 games or 10? 35 point cap on spread?
Also there is a POW each week.... you have not made one.

I’m good with any rule. I just have a personal connection to the staff at SJH and seeing the point differential was shocking.
