This is the equivalent of putting a business into Chapter 11. Once Rollo retires (replaced by a MD guy) and other athletic department coaching changes/reorganization is done, the Servite people will leave.
If they stay too long it will have a major negative impact on alumni donations.

Catholic HS I attended on Long Island in the 1970's was shut down-and our arch-rivals literally moved into the buildings. Former school totally erased from memory/history. Rivalry every bit as heated as MD/Servite. Almost 40 later many of the alums won't step foot on the ground or donate-even if they sent kids there.

I think Vandermade will one day be the HC, but first the new management plans to bring in Larry Toner to re-establish discipline, like he did at Servite.

The only reason for bringing in Larry Toner would be a desire to lose 20 straight games to Servite.

I wouldn’t say ‘only’ but some of us are less inclined to write a check now. Having Servite cronies running MD does not inspire the alumni, rather just the opposite. People at MD obviously know this and perhaps they were at the mercy of the diocese who brought them in. No way they would have come to MD otherwise. I personally welcome outsiders because they bring fresh perspective and ideas. Just as long as they are from anywhere except Servite. 😉

For what it's worth, I haven't spoken to a single alumnus who is put off by the Brennan hiring. On the contrary, after the short but truly awful tenure of Father Jenkins, they are happy and relieved to welcome a capable, experienced administrator. In addition, the only "Servite crony" hired by the diocese was Brennan himself. The three or four others since were hired by the school administration.

I’ve never met Brennan so I have nothing against him. It’s just the optics that are worse than anything else. I have some very good life-long friends from Servite so what I said was in jest. It’s just strange having them run my old school 😂

It’s just the optics that are worse than anything else. If there's anything we've learned from politics, it's that optics can be very misleading. Brennan and Rollinson seem to have a terrific relationship that goes back to the years of Troy Thomas's first tenure at Servite, and the other "transfers" from the dark side of The Force seem to fit in well.

In addition, the only "Servite crony" hired by the diocese was Brennan himself. The three or four others since were hired by the school administration. Knowing all the persons (from Servite) involved, I'm not sure I would make too much out of all this. Some of it is mere circumstance (Brennan was forced out of Servite by the now-outgoing President, went to St. Anthony, and would not be at Mater Dei except for Jenkins' departure; another administrator going to MD from Servite is a MD alum; Joel Hartmann may have left Servite due to the recent AD change there). From a Servite perspective it is disappointing to see anyone go over to the Evil Empire, but in the end this is a kind of intense sibling rivalry and all the Catholic schools have much more in common with each other than we do with Los Alamitos, CdM, or Corona Centennial. All that being said, Mater Dei's negative publicity and the lack of standards (outside of winning at all costs) in its football program reflects badly on all the local Catholic schools--and I'm sure the Diocese would like things cleaned up. We do have a lower level staffer from Servite who went over to MD earlier this year and he communicated that he was surprised at the regularity of fights on campus. That's probably another factor in all of this has hasn't made the papers.

It provokes overreactions via a stimulus that normally doesn't produce such a severe reaction. So say somebody says something to you that you don't like. You may put your fist through a wall. The impulse is there; it's overreaction. Forget the 'roid, for the moment. It's a rage ... and that rage is precipitated by the brain being exposed to anabolic steroids. www.cbsnews.com/news/facts-and-myths-about-roid-rage/

Credo and Professor, So now MD has a roid rage problem and a lot of fights on campus? You guys are hilarious. What about MD's connection to the Russian mafia and Mexican drug cartels? I normally consider both of you as credible posters but this is a ridiculous reach and really scrapping the bottom of the barrel.

When you can't beat 'em on the field, you try to beat 'em on the forums.
