What a great idea. Make a new variant, but make it more much more deadly and much more infectious. We can do that in a lab here, right in the USA. A fool and his money.

(Bloomberg) -- A South African laboratory study using Covid-19 samples from an immunosupressed individual over six months showed that the virus evolved to become more pathogenic, indicating that a new variant could cause more illness than the current predominant omicron strain.

So the best immunization is prior infection. Hopefully the virus isn't that different than the Omicron.
