One of the best ones I’ve read, about a figure in the Civil War, Joshua Chamberlain, is I’ve got it on Kindle, but available on other formats as well.

Wonderfully played by Jeff Daniels in the 1993 Civil War Film, Gettysburg. His story was truly remarkable. Also, in the credits they listed what became of each real life character, with a history and picture of each. Mr. Chamberlain led quite a life.

After finishing the book, I looked him up (including re-watching Gettysburg. I was not disappointed to find as you say: He led quite the life... especially for a college professor.

I highly recommend Ken Burns' documentary also. Be prepared to be haunted by some of the music in it, which is available as shown here, with 25 songs in it. My favorite is Ashokan Farewell.

You’re exactly right about that song, Prof. And “haunting“ is the perfect word to describe it. I’dnever found that song anywhere and I’m glad you posted it. I haven’t heard it in probably 20 years but I remembered every note.
Joshua Chamberlain is one of my favorite figures from the Civil War, also. I was excited once to read his history of the war but I got into it and, my God, he was an author of his era. It was so flowery, ornate and melodramatic that I simply couldn’t get through it. When you compare it to Ulysses Grant’s autobiography - which is so perfectly straightforward and matter of fact - it fades to obscurity. The rise and ultimate death of Ulysses Grant is probably the most compelling life story in American history. More so than even Abraham Lincoln’s.
Shelby Foote’s history of the Civil War is a must read if you really want to understand as much as you can about the war. But, yeah, at 2900 pages it’s a bit of a steep initial step. There are countless excellent books about the Civil War. The one that got me interested was the first one I picked up and read, which was James McPherson’s “Battle Cry of Freedom”. It’s no cliff note at 900 pages but it starts from the end of the Mexican American war all the way to Appomattox. It’s been said by many to be the best single volume ever written about the Civil War................Luca

I have discovered Vile Pagan's pen name. Brandon Hasbrouck authored this attack on Robert E Lee's legacy:

I'm very glad Hasbrouck is a professor of law, because he displays an alarming ignorance of Lee and history.

I have a customer who keeps saying this mess is going to end in civil war. Man, I don't want to see that. But sometimes I wonder... I like her safety glasses. I think they are a must for a lot of reasons.

I think they are a must for a lot of reasons. Always wear eye protection while shooting at the range... then were helmets while fighting a war.

More of the same, removing everything that was the founding and foundation of this country and right before our very eyes...

It's my understanding that the William Penn statue will be replaced by one of Hunter Biden, totally naked, waving a check from China while smoking crack and getting a hummer.
Isn't it time we stopped referring to the left as "progessives", since nothing they are doing can be considered progress.

In the book 1984, the first thing they must do is erase history and cause division. It is right from the commie play book.

I have to say, what the left is doing is brilliant. Yes, this is straight out of Karl Marx. But the left has so dumbed down the majority of America's citizenry in the last 60 years that those citizens don't recognize Marxist tactics because they were never exposed to them in school.
