Seems like this board has gone on hiatus. New coach at Mater Dei. Transfers. Schedules. Nothing is moving the meter. I guess people have to pay attention to their day jobs or something. The moon, Venus, and Jupiter were beautiful in the sky together tonight. 😂

I saw some of the Los Al xfers on Sunday passing tourney... They're very good. Really liked Davon Mitchell. Best TE since Redman at CDM. Like Los Al schedule. Timpview, UT and Mission Viejo should be marquee games, and week 10 v Edison will be for league...4th straight unbeaten for the Griffins - move over Anaheim.

How do you feel about restructuring the leagues? Looks like some people are moving toward using Calpreps rankings for football only leagues. I doubt the freeway league will be affected too much but the Empire, Crestview, Sunset, and South Coast certainly will.

That's a topic that pops up about every three or four years. Unless the people moving in that direction are school principals and athletic directors (in other words, the actual decision-makers in league realignment) rather than internet jockies, it's just idle banter. Also, even if the power brokers are moving in that direction, the individual public school districts have vested interests in keeping league membership aligned along intra-district lines as much as possible. So it would be a very steep uphill battle to realign along Calpreps rating lines.

How/ when would you align the leagues per calpreps?
Not sure I see the benefit given the calpreps driven playoff divisions.

saw a tweet from Tony Henney (Dana Hills coach)-suggesting that CIF realigns with a 12 team Open Division-then regionalizes playoffs with strength of schedule being considered. Not a bad idea-but maybe the top 3 divisions are based on SOS-then regionalize. Any thoughts here?

In that scenario, it sounds like MD would have played SJB in the D1 championship game, correct?

Not a bad idea-but maybe the top 3 divisions are based on SOS-then regionalize. Any thoughts here? Two points: (1) Strength of schedule is already one of the factors Calpreps uses to calculate their ratings. (2) Going to regional brackets rather than competitive equity brackets is a step backwards. In fact, it's what we used to have before the current process, and many people were unhappy with the results every year.

you use regional brackets w competitive equity after divisions 1, 2 and 3. Competitive equity only in upper brackets.

I've been preaching that for years. You can pull 1,2 and 3 and then have 2 or 3 Orange County brackets. It would be a lot more exciting than the current system. No one cares about Cypress v Oak Hills besides those two schools. But Cypress v La Habra would turn some heads.

It would have been nice to have MD play some more games. They are the #2 team.

It would have been nice to have MD play some more games. They are the #2 team. That has been a pet peeve of mine for years now. The North Coast, Los Angeles City and San Diego sections all call their top division the "Open Division", making the loser of their section championship game eligible to continue on in the state regional and bowl games. The Southern Section refuses to do the same, meaning whoever loses their section championship game has their season ended...even when they are the #2 team in the nation. All it would take is for the Southern Section office to change the name of their top division from "Division 1" to "Open Division", like they have already done in other sports like water polo and basketball, but they are either too stupid or too arrogant to do so.
