If you didn't catch it yesterday on Fox Business Sunday, Karl Rove had a slip of the tongue when discussing the DeSantis 2024 campaign using "Our" and quickly correcting to "He", is Karl Rove running "Team Ron"?

What is "Our Movement"? Conservative movement or the same old inept GOP movement. DeSantis better declare soon if he is running, because he will need to create a movement to beat Trump. To date, as a believer in him, he seems to be aligning with the Romney, Rove, Bush allience..., I would find that very disappointing.

You are a smart guy SK. I couldn't have said it better. Sure, DeSantis is great and has good ideas, but we need to clean the swamp, not embrace it. Those characters you mention are too close to the RHINOs, like Mitt, etc. I remember I started a thread a year ago declaring that I thought DeSantis might be the best candidate for 2024, but (just to be a thorn in the side of MD) I like Trump again. He is slamming the deep state. Did you see him talk in Waco? This is a critical time in our history; the left is pushing their deep state agency hard. This is my idea from consuming the media over the last week or so. Obviously, DeSantis is great, but he needs to make some moves (but he could prohibited by a recent Florida law).

I guess I see it differently (I know, what a shock). I think Trump is acting more like a pig every day, spending all his time attacking a Republican governor who is not even a declared candidate yet, rather than the Democratic enemy. He is doing everything he can to damage the party and make sure it has no chance of winning in 2024 unless he is the nominee. I would have expected nothing less from him.

MDDad, in a perfect world all the GOP candidates would have a Koom Ba Yah affirmation holding hands, signing hymns and praising each others past and present. Like it or not (Obviously you do not), Trump plays to win, if DeSantis can't take the heat, well you know the saying.

SK, this country has had presidential campaigns for 230 years, but Trump brings a new level of crap-throwing that we've never seen before. You have to admit there's a big difference between "a Koom Ba Yah affirmation holding hands, signing hymns and praising each others past and present" and what Trump is doing. I'm not sure I completely understand people who take your laissez-faire position on his childish actions. Don't who hold him to any civil standards at all? If I was running for mayor of Corona del Mar, and I dumped a bucket of verbal diarrhea on your head every day, would you just say, "Well, SK, if you can't take the heat..."?

Here is something I like about Trump: He is a doer. He makes lists of things to do, and then he does them. I thought Roe V Wade would never be overturned. He said in his campaign he would do that, and sure enough it happened.
He says some mean things about his political opponents. But if he can get done what he did in his first term, the world would be a safer and better place.
I used to support Ted Cruz. Remember during the 2016 primary the Republican National Committee went to Trump's office to get him to sign an agreement to support whoever the nominee was. He agreed to sign, but they needed to get the other candidates to sign to. The RNC did that, came back, and got Trump to sign too. They never dreamed that an anti-deep-state candidate would win.
So what happened? Trump won the nomination, and Cruz, Jeb, and others reneged on their promise. You can't "trust Ted" anymore.
Cruz is still good IMO. DeSantis is better. But right now (unlike a year ago), I think Trump is the best. I'll ignore his rhetoric and focus on his policy and what he can accomplish.

It is not possible to run for mayor of Corona del Mar, it is not a city. As for "Crap Throwing", never said I like it nor would it be my own personal m/o. But we have what we have before us, you nor I could wave a magic wand now and change it. I would truly love to wave such a wand and bring back civility to politics but that train has left the station. (Ignited further by the media and social media we are on a bullet train). I have also stated if I could have a choice, DeSantis - Paul would be my ticket. If DeSantis can not establish himself outside of Florida or up against Trump, not sure he should be soon leading the nation on a global scale against Putin and Xi. This is high stakes poker and we can not afforded to fold a single hand.

Cruz is still good IMO. DeSantis is better. But right now (unlike a year ago), I think Trump is the best. Fair enough, but can we do a quick side-by-side comparison? Ron DeSantis will be 46 when the '24 election rolls around. Donald Trump will be 78. DeSantis seems to be in pretty darn good shape. Trump is the third fattest president in American history. He openly admits that golf is his only excercise, but he rides a cart rather than walk the course. And his weight implies he has no self-discipline at the dinner table. DeSantis earned a bachelors degree from Yale and a law degree from Harvard. Trump earned a bachelors degree from Wharton. DeSantis was born into a middle-class family and has worked most of his life for what he has achieved. Trump was born into a wealthy family and borrowed at least $60 million from his father, which he did not repay, to start his business career. DeSantis served in the U.S. Navy for 15 years, six on active duty and nine in the reserves. He was a JAG who served in Guantanamo and in Fallujah, Iraq. He earned four service medals including the bronze star. Trump was a draft dodger who avoided serving at all costs. DeSantis has been a Republican all his life. Trump was a Rupublican, then a Reform Party member, then a Democrat, then an independent, and then a Republican again. He seems to have a hard time making up his mind. DeSantis has never filed for personal or business bankruptcy. Trump has filed for bankruptcy at least six times. DeSantis has been married only once, to the same woman for 14 years. Trump has been married three times, and the last two were to trophy wives. He is 17 years older than Marla Maples and 24 years older than Melania. DeSantis always seems to think before he speaks, and he chooses his words wisely. Trump always seems to speak before he thinks, and his words are often childish and personally degrading. DeSantis has never been rumored to have been unfaithful to his wife. Trump cheats on his wives like an alleycat, including with at least one porn star. So when it comes to choosing one or the other as the leader you want to follow into battle against a determined left in 2024, please tell me why you would pick Trump. If it's because you believe "he's a doer", I'd bring up the fact that he failed in his #1 promise to the American people -- to build a southern border wall and make Mexico pay for it.

Just 4 years of "let's calm the eff down" v yet another agenda we have to piss and moan about.

You make some good points MD.
Like I said, I like DeSantis too.
I do judge people by what they say, and Trump can be a loud mouth, BUT, he changed the party for the better. If he did what he did the first four years, we will be in much better shape.

If he did what he did the first four years, we will be in much better shape. Maybe, but we would also be more divided than ever. He's just too polarizing, both within his own party and between the two parties.

So what does yesterdays events in New York do to this primary race now....? DeSantis is the only guy who can attempt to take on Trump, the rallying around Trump yesterday was pretty epic in historical context. And in Florida they are rallying around 45...., how does Ron even enter this race, how would he even get heard in this news cycle? This stuff is global in stature.... have the Democrats created the perfect storm or the biggest blunder?
Meanwhile.....
