thehill.com/hilltv/what-americas-thinking/439722-pollster-says-there-is-a-shift-in-independent-voters-views-ofPollster Dritan Nesho said in an interview that aired Friday on Hill.TV's "What America's Thinking" that there is a shift in independent voters' views of special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia probe. "Who you see shifting in terms of their opinions are independents," Nesho, the CEO of HarrisX, told host Jamal Simmons on Wednesday. "Republicans have largely been consistent in their view of the investigation, considering it to be biased or in many cases, baseless," he continued. "Democrats have been very consistent in their view of the investigation, considering it to be absolutely necessary and believing that there was evidence of collusion or obstruction beyond some of the actions that Trump had taken," he said. "It's the independents in the middle that right now are breaking in favor of the president, [and] largely accept [Attorney General William] Barr's memo and his conclusions," he said. The interview was conducted before Barr released a redacted version of Mueller's long-anticipated report on Thursday. =snip= Rod Rosenstein standing with Barr was huge. Please, please keep this on the front page lefty.

It's been pretty clear for some time now that Donald Trump has about a 43-45% base that would seemingly follow him to the gates of hell. It doesn't seem to vary very much no matter what is happening.
52-55% reliably poll against him, but that does not mean they would support whomever the Democrats put up in 2020
There is an unknown percentage of that 55% who are "Never Trumpers" equally opposed to him and would sooner vote for Kim Jong-un. But I don't think we know how many of that 55%, and those are the so called "independents" who are going to swing the coming election
If they break towards Trump to a significant degree he is going to be re elected..................Luca

I heard a round-table discussion on the radio this morning about the Democratic candidates, and the unanimous consensus among the panelists was that, as of today, Bernie Sanders will win the nomination unless Joe Biden throws his hat in the ring. Then it will go to Uncle Joe.
There is almost no chance that Bernie can beat Trump, (again, unless things change), but I've always thought that Biden could. Now, with the army of skeletons coming out of Uncle Joe's closet, I'm not so sure.

Do you really think that Joe Biden is some old lecher? I don't. I think he's a decent guy who is overly gregarious and physical. Some people are like that. They're trying to show affection and aren't acting out vile urges.
There are reasons not to support Biden but I think this isn't one of them. I think he's getting shafted by the terminally hypersensitive and those with other agendas........................Luca

Luca, no, I don't think he's an old lecher at all. I think he's exactly what you describe. But in today's Me Too world of gross overreactions to perceived harassment, hundreds of thousands of people will not vote for him precisely because he's "overly gregarious". It's too bad, and I think it's a misstep in our social evolution, but it's real nonetheless.

Some people are like that. ........................Luca I agree, but even by the standards of 40 years ago, I have always found those traits creepy & annoying in guys. Back off a bit, give folks some space. Women are another matter, societal norms used to dictate a woman with those traits was just fun to be around...

I also find Uncle Joe creepy but acceptable. I would consider voting for him, but probably wouldn't do so, because of all the Democrat policies his party insists on. Surprisingly a recent poll indicates that most women aren't that bothered by his hair sniffing, back rubbing tendencies.

Creepy Joe was unacceptable (to me) the previous three times he ran for POTUS because he's a dyed-in-the-wool Lefty, and once A.G. Barr begins bringing down the hammer on all the skullduggery of Obama and his intelligence agencies during the 2016 election, Joe Biden will be damaged beyond repair, as he was part of that same administration.

I think Independents will break for Trump in 2020 for two reasons:
1. He has proved himself more than competent in strengthening economic conditions, which might be the primary factor for most voters.
2. They will punish the Democrats for wasting everyone's time with the entire Russian Collusion hoax.

I'm not sure about #2. The right was all over Hillary with investigations, none of which stuck. She lost because of it IMO.
