With the entire country now in control of gangs and no real security to speak of, what happens next?

I guess you could almost ask the same question of our country.

My uncle is a retired (Nam Vet) Colonel in the Marines, his last big assignment in the 90's was the Haiti situation, we were just hanging out in Palm Springs this weekend and his take, same old sh*t. All I could think of is how many lost lives, how much money spent on all these hopeless scenarios.

It's hard and thankless enough to be the policeman of the world, but when you also have to foot the bill for the privilege of doing so and being hated for it, it makes you wonder -- what's the point?

Thought I read Kenya was going to send security forces, but decided against it.
I guess it's like a forest fire where you got to let it burn to start over again.

Haiti is such a curious story. They share the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic , which seems to be a normally functioning country. It’s an interesting case study as to why two countries develop so differently when separated only by an arbitrary line drawn through the middle of an island.

That’s true, but it’s still a pretty unique situation. The US and Mexico differ ethnically and share an entire continent with Canada and with a border that at least geographically makes sense. Hispaniola is almost like a sociology experiment with a small island split seemingly arbitrarily down the middle, inhabited by basically the same ethnic group with the only fundamental difference being one on the west and the other in the east.
While they have historical differences - as do all contiguous nations - the fact is one is a stable country and the other is a failed state. It’s analogous in some way to North and South Korea but in that case the reasons for the radical differences are obvious. Not so much with Haiti and the Dominican Republic…….Luca

Was reading the French developed Haiti primarily with slaves.
You're right though, it's interesting how both sides developed.

I think that’s probably the biggest difference. I’m not intimately familiar with it but I was surprised once to read how brutal the French were under Napoleon with their colonies in the Caribbean. Still, we’re talking 200 years ago.

Eye opening that Haitian voduo is rooted in Catholicism. Would be interesting to get Credo's take on that.

Joe Biden’s and Nancy Pelosi’s religion is also said to be distantly rooted in Catholicism, I’m told.

What happened to all the Haiti news. MSM moves on to the new thing so fast. What happened in Haiti didn't involve enough LGBTQ news to interest anyone. And Haitians have a history of using the wrong pronouns. So the hell with them.
