Sometimes you can be fooled into thinking you're reading a satrical piece from The Onion until you realize that the author is actually serious about the topic.
If I were an NFL owner and decided I wanted to hire a particular guy to be the head coach, I'd interview the guy and confirm my feelings. If they aren't confirmed then I'd go on to my second choice.
But according to an existing rule in the NFL you're obligated to interview either 1 (or is it 2?) black guys before hiring anyone. And now they propose that you can improve your draft standing by actually hiring a black HC.
If the guy you want is white, then you have to interview two black guys and either lie to both of them by saying the interview is serious, or demean both of them by honestly telling them that the only reason they're there is because they're black and the league insists.
But what if the guy you already want is black? You have to interview a second black guy and either lie to him, or insult him to his face by telling him you're only interviewing him because he's black and the league insists that you do so.
This is what the NFL must consider progress. You're rewarded for being deceitful or insulting someone because, after all, image is everything...............Luca

I didn't want to start a new thread called "Pro Futbol", so I put this here.
The combined annual salaries of the highest paid player in the NFL (Tom Brady), NBA (Steph Curry), NHL (Connor McDavid) and MLB (Mike Trout) is $120.5 million. That's 40% less than the $167 million a year Barcelona pays Lionel Messi. And that's not including bonuses, incentives and what European clubs call "loyalty fees" that he receives. Not bad for a girls' sport.

Actually, it’s 27.2% less than $167 million. Perhaps what you meant to say was that he’s paid 40% more than they are, collectively.
As we get older, our mathematical skills tend to wane. You’re welcome...................Luca

Does anybody have any observations on the Goff for Stafford trade?
There are pros and cons there. After 2 seasons I thought that Goff was going to continuously improve but he seems to have stagnated. Now I don't think he's ever going to be anything more than a little better than average pro quarterback. When he had some top-notch receivers (he still does), Todd Gurley, a strong offensive line around him and an innovative offense that no one was ready for, he looked like a star in the making. Now that the surrounding talent has slipped his performance has really dropped. And with McVey appearing to emphasize a quarterback who can run, Goff doesn't fit in anymore.
But he's young whereas Stafford is 33 and doesn't run a whole hell of a lot better, if at all. Stafford is clearly the better QB, but for how long? And was it really worth an additional 2 first round choices?
I read where Goff said he's excited about going to Detroit, which cracked me up. Sure you are. Who wouldn't want to play football in Detroit, y'know? It reminds me of when Matt Cassel was traded from the Patriots to Kansas City, which at that time was the dregs of the NFL. Cassel told the press he was really enthusiastic about playing for the Chiefs. Since he was in high school he has been a close friend of my brother and nephew, and they asked him why he would say something like that.
"What the hell else could I say?" was his response. "I'll take the money ($66 million) but this place is my worst nightmare?"
It will pay off for the next 2 to 3 years for the Rams most likely, but where are they going to get any new talent?...............Luca

Unless Stafford is bringing Marvin Jones and his OL, this isn't going to work out for the Rams AT ALL.
You've got some guys pointing out that Stafford deep game is like #2 overall, and Goff is like #31. Goff had success when Gurley was one of the top RBs (pre arthritis days), which somewhat hid the fact the OL wasn't that good. That and they had Cooks who could stretch the field.
Now it's all underneath timing stuff that isn't really Stafford's game.
My bet it Goff will now have the luxury of playing behind a pretty good OL with a good young RB (a bulldog like Gurley BTW). Remains to be seen if Det keeps their good WRs.

Gurley was more over-rated than Goff.

No he really wasn't. He had a degenerative knee condition since GA that finally impacted his game.
He was what took the Rams to the bowl. Defenses had to single up the WRs in order to keep him somewhat bottled up, yet he still had a couple monster years.

Gurley was more over-rated than Goff. I agree with Bick. You're wrong. Gurley was the best RB in the league for three or four years until injuries and wear-and-tear caught up with him. He was every defense's first concern and he allowed a mediocre Goff to put on a shiny show that has since been exposed.

"...to the BOWL", yup the biggest game of his life and Rex (Who Dat) Burkhead out rushed him as did Sony Michel by a long shot. Gurley put up a blistering running game of just 35 yards as what MDDad claims was the best RB in the league. Yes, Todd's knee failed him as do injuries for many an athlete but it was something about his mindset that always bothered me. Extremely talented player who didn't have the "head" for the game. Not sure the way the game is played presently today many RB's are making easy peasy HOF lists but I do not believe you will ever see Gurley as a first round top 10 pick on anyones great RB's in NFL history lists. Give me under talented guys like Burkhead, Edelman and Brady, they are winners.
