OK guys, the pool is on. We've decided to use the system that my son plays in the ER where he works because it's much tougher and less forgiving than the TOB system. There is little challenge in picking the winner between St. John Bosco and Bolsa Grande (except maybe for Luca), so there is little challenge in that.
In this system you must pick the winner of the game and the number of points by which they will win (i.e. the spread). You get 30 points for picking the winner correctly, and 0 if the other team wins. Then you lose 1 point for every point you are off the actual winning margin. If you pick Team A over Team B by 10, and Team A wins by 14, you get 30 minus 4 = 26 points. If Team B wins by 7, you get 0 minus 17 = -17. It's brutally tough and you can't skate by in any game. If you don't like the system, complain to Bick, because he agreed to it. All picks must be in by 6 PM on Thursday.
There are 15 games this week:
Capistrano Valley at Tustin Corona Centennial at Mater Dei DeMatha MD at St. John Bosco Downey at Corona del Mar JSerra at Salt Lake City East UT Katella at Valencia La Habra at Upland Los Alamitos at Torrey Pines Mission Viejo at Konawaenea HI San Clemente at Oceanside San Juan Hills at Orange Lutheran Santa Margarita at Redlands East Valley Servite at J.W. North Western at Muir Whittier at Tesoro
Good luck! I'll keep score, so I'll probably win.

I've hired a nice gal named Helen Waite to handle any complaints regarding this pool. So please, if you have any complaints, go to Helen Waite.

Not sure I understand the pick team A by 10 they win by 14 and you get penalized? I believe yes. You would get 30 minus the point differential either way. In this case, you'd get 26 points. Right MDDad?

That's right. It makes every point matter, and it makes picking the spread critical.
If we want to just pick the game winners, that's fine, but I think that's way too easy. Even Luca could half of them right.

I fail to understand ...... can you give example based on these outcomes.....
You pick MD over inferior opponent to win by 40 and final score is MD wins 59-0.
You pick MD over inferior opponent to win by 40 and final score is 48-9.
And what is the basis for 30 points for the win?

And what is the basis for 30 points for the win? #1 - 30-19=11 #2 - 30-1=29 I'll defer to MDD on your last question, but assume it is because the likelihood of you getting the game and the spread exactly right is pretty slim. If you do, you're rewarded handsomely. This as opposed to getting 1 point of you get the game right or wrong. This system better differentiates the best prognostication.

And what is the basis for 30 points for the win? I didn't invent the system, I just thought it would be a cool one to try. I assume the 30 points for picking the winner is to reward a player for actually picking the winner. I also assume the point spread differential is to reward a player for getting closer to the actual spread than another player.

If you're on a street corner in Brooklyn, you should probably just step in front of a bus.

Since Servite doesn't play this week, do you get 30 points if you guess Servite 0 JW North 0?
