Looks we we may have severely overrated JSerra according to Maxpreps. I think they've got Narbonne way too high.
I didn't realize Roberg xferred to Oaks. He didn't seem to be all that special when we played them in Rd 1 last year.

With Narbonne's coaching staff on administrative leave, the school essentially doesn't have a football program. They probably shouldn't be ranked at all, especially when the rats start leaving the sinking ship.

I thought someone stepped up to coach them? Who was running the show at the MV passing tourney?

Look for Servite to make an appearance in the next week's poll. CalPreps just moved the Friars up to #79 nationally.

MAXPREPS released their PRESEASON NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TOP 100 this week....., OC's own MATER DEI is their pick for #1....... Here is the link to the nations top 100 according to MP.... www.maxpreps.com/news/kBJ0M4ukqkafzNl3mtK-Fw/maxpreps-2019-preseason-top-100-high-school-football-teams.htmWith approximately 37,000 secondary public and private schools I have to say I am very proud of my alma mater here on this list.... {insert "thumbs up" emoji here} I'll list the CIF SS teams for quick reference: 1. Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.)The back-to-back CIF Open Division state champs are loaded once again in 2019 led by 5-star quarterback Bryce Young, 5-star linebacker Raesjon Davis and 2020 Washington commit Myles Murao. 3. St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.)DJ Uiagalelei leads the way for one of the most explosive offenses in high school football that features Kris Hutson, Logan Loya, Beaux Collins and Nate Jones. 12. Centennial (Corona, Calif.)Corona Centennial gets a chance to show why it's the best team in California right off the bat when the Huskies open up against No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana). 27. Narbonne (Harbor City, Calif.)One of the most talented teams in the country and they added Darion Green-Warren, Traeshon Holden, Macen Williams, Jared Greenfield and Anthony Beavers Jr. to a team that came close to competing for a CIF state title. 33. Mission Viejo (Calif.)Chad Johnson had one of the toughest jobs in the country last year replacing legendary head coach Bob Johnson at the helm. Expect the Diablos to be even better this season, especially with 2021 quarterback Peter Costelli under center for the next two seasons. 40. Oaks Christian (Westlake Village, Calif.)The Lions' lone loss last year came against St. John Bosco in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 semifinals. With Ethan Calvert, Bryce Farrell, Alonzo Fontenette and Westlake transfer Patrick Roberg under center, they have a chance to win at least 11 games for the fourth time in the last five 51. Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.)While the basketball team is making all the headlines expect the football squad to be equally as successful. After falling short in the CIF division 1-A state championship last year, the Trailblazers will be in the mix again with DJ Harvey, Chayden Peery, Kamari Ramsey and JD Sumlin leading the way. 55. Upland (Calif.)Darryl Thomas has been on the Highlanders' coaching staff the past seven years and takes over as head coach after the legendary Tim Salter retired. You can expect Thomas to lean on one of the most talented defenses in the state led by 5-star Justin Flowe and 4-star Jonathan Flowe. 62. Serra (Gardena, Calif.)The Cavaliers have been a talent pipeline and this year's squad has big-time players including LV Bunkley-Shelton, Justin Houston, Maalik Murphy, Doug Brumfield, Ronald Gilliam and Devyn King. 65. Calabasas (Calif.)Despite Jermaine Burton transferring to IMG Academy, the Coyotes will have one of the most explosive offenses in the country led by Johnny Wilson, Jaden Casey, Larry Turner and Jyden King. 95. Corona del Mar (Newport Beach, Calif.)Ethan Garbers, John Humphreys, Mark Redman, Bradley Schlom and Jason Vicencio give the Sea Kings one of the top offenses in California. Here is your CALPREPS TOP 100
CIF-SS teams:
#1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, CA) #2 Saint John Bosco
#7 Corona Centennnial
#9 Narbonne
#14 Calabasas
#24 JSerra
#25 Oaks Christian
#32 Mission Viejo
#38 Sierra Canyon
#46 Grace Bethren
#49 Norco
#65 Corona del Mar
#79 Servite
#97 Upland

I think La Habra slots right after Norco.
Upland is under rated.

I think La Habra slots right after Norco. Upland is under rated. Ironic the California Poll has Upland ranked lower than the national. Calpreps had 14 CIF-SS schools in its Top 100 while (expected) Maxpreps only 11. Here is how they would look averaged for the schools ranked by both polls: 1 (1) MATER DEI 2. (2.5) SAINT JOHN BOSCO 3. (9.5) CENTENNIAL 4. (18) NARBONNE 5. (32.5) OAKS CHRISTION 6. (32.5) MISSION VIEJO 7. (36) JSERRA 8. (44.5) SIERRA CANYON 9. (76) UPLAND 10. (77.5) CORONA DEL MAR

Looks we we may have severely overrated JSerra according to Maxpreps. I thought the same thing thinking how its it possible JSERRA was left out of one of these polls..., on second run through they were not coming in at #48 on MP.

I put more stock in what we think on this board about the So Cal teams than the LOCAL writer(s), and certainly more than the guy(s) doing the NATIONAL polls.
Calabasas seems overrated too. I like La Habra over both them and Narbonne.

I put more stock in what we think on this board about the So Cal teams than the LOCAL writer(s), and certainly more than the guy(s) doing the NATIONAL polls. I couldn't agree more. I've spent hours seeing guys like Dan Albano, Steve Fryer, Eric Sondheimer, Greg Biggins and others talking to guys just like us to get "our" opinions on our teams and players. What they write is often just a distillation of what we've told them. They often don't know any more than we do about any of this stuff, and frequently they know less. And you can multiply that by a hundred for the guys who vote in the national polls.

And you can multiply that by a hundred for the guys who vote in the national polls. In fairness to those writers, they have to now cover a helluva lot more than just HS football given the consolidation of their departments. It wasn't that long ago they had 5-6 full-time guys, and about a dozen or so correspondents, at OCV that were covering HS football. Polls back then seemed a lot more valid. On the other hand, our focus is pretty much entirely on the schools we follow and their competition. The LA Times top 25 is just Sondheimer's opinion, I think. The CIF division polls are really a joke. Those are the coaches who could care less about doing them. I've heard they sometimes just put them in alpha order, or just hand it off to someone else to do.
