She is really taking heat from all races for this crap. She justifies it saying it is not racism, but it doesn’t make sense that 90% of journalists in Chicago are white, but over 50% of the population is black. So far, she is not backing down. Why should she...she's highlighted a problem in perhaps the most effective way. Why does the broadcast media tend to hire white people? |

I'm going to assume you are not a member of the media, so you do not have any information that they do tend to hire white people, other than as a normal representation of the population at large. Do you support giving the job to an under-qualified black person, over the higher qualified white person? That is, also, racism. All you know for certain is, that is what the Chicago mayor said. You have no idea if her claim is accurate or just a rationalization for her racism... and having attended one of her "press conference," I believe it to be the latter. |

Why does the broadcast media tend to hire white people? I don't spend a lot of time watching the broadcast media, and from this statement I have to assume you don't either. African-Americans make up 12.7% of the American population. From the limited time I have spent watching broadcast media, I am absolutely convinced that the percentage of on-air "reporters" who are African-American is much higher than that. So where does your assertion come from? |

I would have Googled it to see if the numbers are accurate but I know how much that bothers you, so my "assertion" comes just from what's been posted so far in this thread...I do hope it somewhat resembles reality but it wouldn't surprise me to find out the whole discussion is based on BS. |

No, that's not my contention. I don't live in Chicago and neither do you, so I doubt either of us knows the percentage of black people in the broadcast media there. That aside, it's irrelevant. If I contend that the average rainfall in the United States is 15 inches, and you try to prove me wrong my saying that there's a place on Kauai that averages over 400 inches, it means nothing. One micro-example is as irrelevant as the other. I live in Orange County, where the black population is just over 2%, but the on-air percentage of black broadcast media personnel is at least five or ten times that high. Broadcast media is almost exclusively liberal and more woke every day, so I feel safe in assuming that the percentage of black on-air personnel is likely much higher than 12%. |

Not to be overly critical of Chicago's mayor, Gollum, but her figures are askew. According to POPULATION . COMin 2020, NOW, the argument can be made that she was only speaking of the non-white (or "minority") population but she then went on to say that because of her figure, (only) black reporters were under-represented in her presence conferences. She also fails to take not that her ire is not taking into consideration the black unemployment rate is upwards of 16%; she also ignore that 70% of Chicago-area COVID 19 infections are among African Americans, and a high percentage of black families are fleeing Chicago because of the black mayor's malfeasance in dealing with gang violence. SO, in summary, she made a racist statement, then tried to walk it back (or rationalize it) with flawed, inaccurate figures. |
