Raising taxes on the poor saves their lives

What Bloomberg says on that video may be one of the two or three stupidest things I've ever heard a politician say..and that covers a lot of stupid sayings.

Caveat:  Anything ever uttered by AOC is obviously excluded.

SK, that one ranks right up there as well. I think it would be fun to have three or four Scotches on an empty stomach, and then watch a political discussion between AOC and Dan Quayle. That might be as close to an acid trip as you can get without actually dropping any.

He uses the example of taxing the poor so they can't afford sugary sodas, and thereby improving their health in spite of themselves.  That's a perfect example of the left's belief that they know what's best for everyone, and by God their going to cram it down our throats whether we like it or not.  But more importantly, I wonder if Bloomberg would support taxing HIMSELF so much that he can't afford sugary sodas anymore either.  Something tells me he might balk at that.

Yes, it's called a "sin tax" and we use it on many products like cigarettes and alcohol...are those "stupid" as well or just the sugar tax?

BTW, the tax on sugary drinks is not there so the poor can no longer afford to buy them so your question to Bloomberg makes little sense.

Given the epidemic of obesity in this country how would you suggest the government discourage the purchase of sugary drinks and other foods that make us obese?

It doesn't matter what they want. The only thing that matters to the left is what they know is best for us.  Individual accountability and common sense are outdated concepts.

in a nutshell, there seem to be a couple different groups of liberal constituents:

• The progressive:  Usually more educated at least in a formal, academic sense but lacking in common sense:  Advocate the currently popular talking points with a feigned facade of social justice. Always willing to argue, but clearly incapable of supporting their preferences.
• The liberal democrat: Typically uneducated and unmotivated except by whatever they can get for free, so will stay out of arguments but vote for whomever will give them stuff.
