You guys hit me thinking back to some of my all time favorites. Hagler v Hearns was a just plain unreal start to a fight, but I think Leonard v Duran #1 was my all time favorite, starting with Ray Charles singing America the Beautiful before the bout. This link highlights a bunch of the top ones, and will provide some Luca v MDDad fodder about who was ringside for Jack Johnson v. James Jeffries. www.si.com/longform/2015/boxing-fights/index.html#box6

Those two you mentioned were the first two that immediately came to mind.
However, many of Tyson's fights before Buster Douglas were memorable, albeit lopsided. In his fight against an aging Larry Holmes, Holmes was setting Tyson up for an uppercut. The time came, Tyson had Holmes against the ropes and was in a position where Holmes could fire a match changing punch. You see Holmes drop his shoulder, load up and as he goes to fire the uppercut, he suddenly realizes his arm is on the wrong side of the ropes. The look of terror on Holmes face as he knows he has one hand literally tangled in the ropes as Tyson unloads on him was memorable.
Tyson's early matches and first few title matches were awesome in the way that he manhandled other fighters. He made professional heavyweights look like some guy they pulled out of a bar.
It is interesting that following the deaths of those he trusted, it took a snake (Don King Jr.) and a woman (Robin Givens) to soften Tyson up mentally to a point that other boxers could beat him.

Best Short Fight I've Ever Seen -- Marvin Hagler vs. Thomas Hearns. For 2 1/2 rounds it was nonstop slugging action with both guys getting rocked.
Best Long Fight I've Ever Seen -- Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier III, the Thrilla in Manila. There have been dozens of fighters who have died in the ring, or a day or two later, but this was the closest I ever saw to TWO guys almost dying in the ring. The greatest exhibition of sheer will by two guys I've ever seen.
Most Anticipated Fight I've Ever Seen -- Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier I. The hype and build-up to this fight was incredible. Very few people on the planet thought there was any way Frazier could ever beat Ali by decision, yet he did.
Most Socially Important Fight Of All Time -- Joe Louis vs. Max Schmeling II. The African-American against the German ubermensch.
Fight I Would Have Loved To See When Both Were In Their Prime -- Joe Frazier vs. Mike Tyson. For as long as it might have lasted, that would have been the greatest heavyweight brawl of my lifetime.

Best fight I ever watched - 1st Leonard vs. Duran fight. Most amazing performance by a fighter I ever saw - WBO super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe destroying heavily favored IBF champion, American Jeff "Left Hook" Lacy. Both fighters were undefeated at the time. Calzaghe was 40-0, and Lacy was 21-0. Joe Calzaghe (46-0) is rated by many to be the greatest super middleweight of all time, Known for his amazing hand speed. He also held a light heavyweight title.

As a kid I remember watching Leonard-Duran I & II at my neighbor's house in Burbank, since they had "ON TV", and we only got channels 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, and 28. The "No Mas" fight was one I'll always remember.

...since they had "ON TV",... Every straight male teenager remembers "ON TV", especially if your parents didn't subscribe to it. Watching the scrambled channel (I believe it was channel 56) after midnight when they would play soft core porn caused retina damage among many boys. Just when you were thought you saw a boob, it would re-scramble and you realized you were inadvertently ogling an elbow...

I just watched the Calzaghe/Lacy fight again, and man, it's an even more amazing performance than I remembered. If you want to see a boxer put on a boxing clinic, this is the fight you've got to see.

Just when you were thought you saw a boob, it would re-scramble and you realized you were inadvertently ogling an elbow... Dude, elbows don't have nipples. Anyone who didn't go to Servite would know that.

Anyone who didn't go to Servite would know that. Not so fast there. I know of at least 3 girls from Mater Dei who had nipples on their elbows. They were all related and inbred, you know, best of breed for the Monarchs.

Back then, I imagine you were one of those guys that wouldn't know a nipple if it, well, slapped you in the face.

Wait, you are now imagining nipples slapping me in the face when I was just a teenage boy? Dude, you are one step away from pedoville...
And just because Mater Dei boys breast feed until their 15th birthday doesn't really make them nipple experts. Well, okay, they are experts about their mothers nipples or their aunts nipples when Mommy is out of town, but not about anyone outside of their family tree.
Wait, I just remembered about your basketball program. Coach McNipple does indeed try to slap his players around using his male mammeries, so maybe that is where you coming from.

HIJACKED THREAD ALERT: Now let's not be too hard on Mater Dei, a school that, after all, is named for Blessed Mary the Mother of God. And since Catholics see Mary as the new Eve, who is the 'mother of all the living' (Genesis 3:20), it makes perfect sense that the Mater Dei football program seems to draw it's players not only from Orange County but from 'all the living' no matter what county or state--or even country--in which they currently reside.
