California high school sports: Compromise, hope continue as coaches to meet state officials for third time www.maxpreps.com/news/j-SOy1j-3ES67PANfM92kg/california-high-school-sports--compromise,-hope-continue-as-coaches-to-meet-state-officials-for-third-time.htm
The Golden State High School Football Coaches Community appears to have gained momentum as it heads into a Thursday afternoon meeting with California Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly and Executive Secretary Jim DeBoo.
This will be the third meeting and second this week between the recently formed 700-member youth sports advocacy group and members of Gov. Gavin Newsom's office, all in the effort to bring back youth sports safely — and in the case of California coaches, promptly.
On Tuesday, the National Federation of State High School Associations, the national governing body of prep sports, revised its May guidance document on the risk of COVID-19 during high school athletics, highlighted by the elimination of tiers assigned to specific sports.
Said Serra (San Mateo) coach Patrick Walsh: "The report justified what we've been saying all along about youth sports, that they are safe to play, particularly outdoors. This is very encouraging for the youth of California."
That's just what the Golden State group has encouraged the California Department of Public Health to do with its colored tiers for youth sports guidelines, thus paving the way for higher-risk sports, like football and basketball, to return in time for seasons to take place by the end of the school year.

Is he the poster who had a son playing TE for Orange Lutheran about a decade ago? EDIT: No, that kid's name is Christo Kourtzidis. Went to Florida State. The poor kid had a shoulder injury that evidently ended his career. He had 1 reception for 13 yards.

Is he the poster who had a son playing TE for Orange Lutheran about a decade ago? No, he's the guy who has a morning sports talk show on the radio and seems to appear on half the sports talk segments on TV. I can't remember a time when he didn't act like a retarded loudmouthed goofball on the air. And boy has his shtick grown old.

Someone should remind him how irrelevant his opinion is... Because the science shows how kids are spreading it, are greatly affected by it, and masks work... right Eric?

Yes, and the LATIMES knights each and every employee journalist with that designation and honor...

Next Monday--March 1--Servite will be back to all students on campus; no more hybrid. It's 11 months late (IMHO), but at least we're among the first high schools in SoCal to be back full time.
