We are all obviously in this "crisis" or "event" together on so many levels. We have spent much time discussing many of these issues that go along with such a time in history. But what about "sport", high school sport in which we all have a passion for and millions of student athletes not only do but are banking on it as part of their future.
At this pointing time we have schools closed. High School Sport is on lockdown. Spring sports like baseball, LaCrosse and Volleyball stopped. Seniors whom will never play their final year. It's really pretty heavy for these kids. And then there is spring training on hold, summer likely as well. How do you think this will effect the games we love come Fall?
Anyone want to weigh in on how they see what could play out for our common interest, HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL? Are all school equally going to practice present protocol? No organized training, no contact with others? Do push ups in your bedroom? How many families are buying home gym equipment or setting up weight rooms in the family garage? Will the quality of ball next year suffer? Maybe strength and speed can be worked on alone, in a park? Campuses are closed. Will ZOOM get players more invested in their teams playbook? Can you really get a feel for the game, your teammates on a conference call? Timing? Contact? SO many questions and uncharted waters.
I think we get through this come April, summer weather will slow the spread of this virus. What if we get a green light and then come colder weather another outbreak, shut down come mid season? Maybe all premature to think and wonder about, but at some point you have to....
Thoughts from the OCNLP forum members.....?

I think coaching will be an even greater determinant of success this year than in the past.
I also think this will blow over by the time summer comes around, or the weather heats up, or a treatment becomes mainstream, or more people become aware that we've encountered and survived microscopic pathogens since the dawn of the planet. Common sense hygiene will endure - hopefully the incidence of hand washing (not just the sanitizer usage) will become a bigger part of everyday living.

I want to agree until a HS player gets tested positive again and the left wing school district chiefs cry "STOP"! Agree on the coaching as a major aspect here, those programs that have a good well organized and support core will likely see better results than those simply relying on athleticism to carry the games.... I wonder how much this will present a challenge to those schools that have a lot of player transition rather by graduation or those whom rotate kids through transfers.... point being those not playing together much and getting a possible late start to this off and pre-season. I suspect any team coming in with a large senior class could have an advantage.....

If there is a season, what I expect is many more injuries than in past years because kids aren't in the best of shape.

So last night I had a dream, I rarely remember dreams any longer, maybe age? I am standing sideline at a HSF game, Santa Ana SAINTS and CDM SEA KINGS. The players are wearing no helmets but viral masks. The defensive side of the ball had players spaced 6' apart in which they had their classroom chairs placed. There was no runs allowed up the middle as the distancing left huge gaps in the D-Line, it was a PASS HAPPY game. The Saints scored first, I was incensed and left. I remember driving away in a black luxury sedan, probably the latest model. I remember trying to get the final score later from others. Never did. Really, the Santa Ana SAINTS? Maybe the Santa Ana was ingrained as Mater Dei (from MDAD) or was it the SAINTS from that HS CHANTING post from "Dear Bick"? Either way, it is obvious to me this morning this entire crisis has got to me.

We normally let those "coaching" fouls slide a little unless they are gross and cause a definite advantage for the first few weeks. Move a receiver back or up, tackles get a little break from being in the backfield, motion as long as they don't false start or get a running advantage by turning up. All in all, those fouls are about discipline. Our crew has been using Zoom meetings to go through film from last year and rules and case book videos. We're still putting in work to be ready, if we get to play.

If colleges can play football, high schools can do the same.

We start the season, play a couple games, and then a player tests positive.
What should the next steps be?

We start the season, play a couple games, and then a player tests positive. What should the next steps be? Chances are a healthy kid testing positive is in little danger himself but he would most likely be sidelined (no pun intended) for the two weeks then tested again..... if they did something like this what a possible game changer each week who is avail/no longer avail...., it would make it more important for kids to stay away socially etc so to not jeopardize their playing time. This is me trying to use some rational logic, however in reality the media frenzy on the positive kid would shut it all down.... the media is going to keep this story alive as long as the virus is alive...

We start the season, play a couple games, and then a player tests positive. What should the next steps be? Blame it on Trump and keep playing.
