Modern drummers can be for the most part can be placed into two broad categories, although there's a good deal of overlap. There are the technicians such as Ginger Baker and then there are the musicians such as Charlie Watt or Richard Starkey. (When Bruce Springsteen was looking for a drummer to fill out the E Street Band he specifically requested "No Ginger Bakers.")
Technicians are the guys who take off on drum solos at every opportunity whether or not it has anything to do with the damned song. They are technically skilled and impressive but they don't necessarily add much to the song. Musicians play within the boundaries of the song and make the song better musically. Think of Buddy Rich versus Gene Krupa.
Charlie Watt was not a great technical drummer but he was a very good musician/drummer. I used to try to copy him until I realized I wasn't any good. I understand he was also a really classy guy. Vaya con Dios, Mr Watt.

A bleeding heart liberal, who sometimes got nasty with conservatives and conservative causes, but I believe he sincerely believed in the liberal philosophy. I simply feel that he was just a naive lefty, not an evil one like Pelosi, Schiff, and Swalwell for example.
RIP Ed

Like many in the industry, couldn't keep their mouth shut or in the least act civil regarding their politics, DeNiro anyone.

I know this is off topic.
I know 4 people who have died in the last 3 weeks. None died of COVID but 1 heart attack, 2 cancer and 1 with a stroke. Is anybody else going through this?

I'm sorry for your loss, Tarmac... Blessings to their families and friends.
I have only lost one friend so far this year, and 1 friend last year. Both were too young to go.
