The fact the SD Supervisor had to "dig" to find out what the true Covid deaths were is pretty disconcerting. We've touched on that issue more than a few times here.
But now that we know only 6 of the 195 deaths would be considered without prior illness, the next step would be to see the age group distribution of those 6.

To play the devil's advocate, I assume it would be a timely and costly process trying to determine whether or not the individual actually died of the virus' symptoms or if it was a result of something else (like lung cancer).

Evidently, in many hospitals and nursing homes, if a patient is already dying of something, but he contracts the coronavirus, it's presumed the virus "pushed him over the edge" and made him die sooner. It goes in the books as a coronavirus death (a) for the shock value, and (b) for the extra reimbursement the hospital or nursing home receives that they don't get for a non-COVID death. If someone game me an extra $13,000 every time I said I liked and respected Vilepagan's posts, I'd praise the dude 'til the cows come home.

MDDad, I think (b) is likely the current situation.
Not sure about $13,000... bump it to $20,000 and I'll take you up on that.

To play the devil's advocate, I assume it would be a timely and costly process trying to determine whether or not the individual actually died of the virus' symptoms or if it was a result of something else (like lung cancer). It might or might not be, but ‘round heah, that don’t matter none. as I’ve pointed out elsewhere, our state has over three times the cases of all surrounding states combined, AND hospitals (and the states) get much more money for a COVID case than for another illness. it is no coincidence that our Governor profits, personally, for every test administered (and he has ordered testing of every citizen), and no coincidence the state gets a handsome profit for every death attributed to COVID ... so every cause of death becomes “COVID” if any trace of the disease has been discovered in the deceased. he is doing all this primarily because the state is in a woeful economic mess due to decades of bad... some would say “criminal”... abuse of our funds by democrats. And because Pritzker has been denied now three times his requests for a bailout from the Fed. Gov’t...like a petulant, pouting child, last week, he announced we would go it alone: That we don’t need money from the federal government (because he is stealing it other ways, Imassume).

Assuming those #'s are accurate in OC as well, of the 88 reported Covid deaths in OC, only 1 didn't have a pre-existing illness...3 if SD County experience is more accurate at 3%.
Geez...we really have been had.
Dave - can you find out what the #'s are in your neck of the woods? Prof - can you as well?

Ha...even that 25% drop didn't address if those that passed had an underlying condition.

I enjoy creating and using analogies because they often seem to drive home the point better than explanations.
Covid19 has been portrayed by the media as Godzilla, stomping & destroying your town, killing everyone in his path. Its not. Rather, Covid19 is the dog down the street who bit the mailman & the kid who delivers newspapers. Take a few simple precautions and it is no big deal. If you can't take those precautions, don't go near the dog.

Get your point RSM but not sure I would go as far as a non lethal dog bite to a realized death from a virus. I've never gone as far as saying this isn't "real" or brush it off as hype. Is it hyped? Yes. But its real.

Geez...we really have been had. Dave - can you find out what the #'s are in your neck of the woods? Prof - can you as well? McLean County (Illinois) has only 6 deaths from Corona Virus. But how many of them had pre-existing conditions that were complicated by the virus, either no one knows or at least no one is reporting. I have written to our McLean County Board of Health to request information. anecdotally, my wife works for an ER doctor who was on duty when the death count was only 3. According to him, 2 of the three were old AND had pre-existing conditions. I will post more data when... or if I get it.
