This is cool graphics but what are the breakdowns politically of those leaving? The few RED Californians heading to Red States? (Texas) Blue Californians heading to other Blue States (Oregon, Washington)? Interesting to see such stats...

I'm not sure I believe those map graphics, for two reasons:
(1) It shows the top six destinations for Californians leaving are Texas, Arizona, Washington, Oregon, Florida and New York. I can't believe New York is the #6 destination for those of us who are disillusioned enough to leave. That state's politics are just as abhorrent, and it's weather is ten times worse.
(2) I know more people who have moved to Tennessee than probably any other state, yet it shows up as hardly a blip on that map.

The utter hubris of our gov and his followers over Walgreens is really on display right now.
Imagine refusing to do business with a national chain simply because they refuse to break the law in 20 other states.

New York pops up simply on its population size and many of those are simply returning, I know some. Tennessee I agree, there has been much movement there but maybe more so from other states than ours here. I spend a lot of time there as well and I can say there are just too many California jokes thrown at you for there not to be too many of us invading!

You obviously don't get around much....., beyond the Orange Curtain That's ironic, coming from a Corona del Mar guy. SK, believe it or not, I've heard the rumors that we have homeless people here in California, and I believe them. But if those same people move to New York, they'd all be popsicles within a week. So why are people moving there?

SK, believe it or not, I've heard the rumors that we have homeless people here in California, and I believe them. But if those same people move to New York, they'd all be popsicles within a week. So why are people moving there? Why ironic? Broad brushing again? Profiling.... I believe over the years I have mentioned that I have two residences or homes here in Southern California, one in OC and one in LA, I split my time between the two. CDM has been home since 1972 by way of Whittier and La Habra and I have resided in LA since 1990 from the Westside of LA, to Hollywood and Pasadena. From '82-'90 I lived in New York City, Manhattan and Brooklyn. I know the landscapes of both big cities you speak of, very well by the way. Maybe one could start here...., "But buried at the bottom is the perplexing fact that the car-dependent, suburban sprawl of Los Angeles has nearly twice the homicide rate of New York City, the densest single city and greater metropolitan area of the entire country. www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/why-are-you-twice-as-likely-to-be-murdered-in-los-angeles-as-in-new-york-city
When I left the confines of Corona del Mar in 1982 at the age of 20, I left maybe one of the safest places on earth for what many considered the most dangerous big city on earth. I can attest during the 80's that NYC was just that. Protect yourself at all times. I returned to LA to pursue a career in 1990, I thought I was coming back to that safe place, California. It wasn't within a year that the Rodney King beating took place and riots ensued. The city of Los Angeles has never been the same since. Meanwhile on the other coastal big city, a guy named Giuliani arrived on the scene literally transforming NYC into the safest big city on earth. By the end of his tenure New York had basically become one big island you could call Disneyland. (When Disney was still safe ).
I get your point, why would you chase one cesspool for another, especially when one freezes. You do know however once frozen, the stench does seem palpable. for a time being. I used this notion often when I lived in NYC, there were many homeless whom begged on the streets earning a decent living (By the way New Yorkers are way more generous than Angelenos) actually and you had to wonder why not buy a one way ticket to Miami and bum around the beaches instead of the frozen tundra that became Central Park come winter? I've never been able to answer that question.
Again, I would have to believe many of those moving there to NYC are moving back to where they came as opposed to many first time natives leaving their own state.
