Newsom and the Democrats could care less for the poorest kids and others who will fall further behind because of these closures. Throw all sports out the window as well. It's all about imposing control and damaging Trump.

Inside the article is a link to the actual union demands. It's a serious money grab in addition to defunding the police and charter schools.
Any guesses why a union would want to eliminate charter schools?

If you believe the numbers. It's ironically Freudian that Yahoo put Newsom's announcement in the "Entertainment" section of their website. For a man who insists he bases his decisions and edicts on science, this man is now a certifiable lying moron. Rather than allow children to return to school, where all the science indicates they are safer than almost anywhere else from catching the virus or infecting others, he instead is forcing them to hunker down at home where: (a) Evidence indicates they will learn up to 50% less than they do in a classroom environment, (b) Tens of thousands of parents without childcare will be forced to stay home from jobs to supervise them, or (c) Children will be supervised by friends or relatives like grandparents who have no teaching experience and science indicates are much more likely to get sick. |

I don't have a dog in this fight, my kids are out of school and my grandson won't be in school for a few years. Nonetheless, this is one of the most evil & corrupt things I believe I have ever seen, a blatant political move that harms millions of children.
Children have a statistical probability of dying from this virus of zero and it has been shown that they are not the ones who transmit the virus to others. They don't need to wear masks, they don't need to socially distance, this virus does not affect them. The teachers can mask up, get behind a Plexiglas shield, whatever they need to do for themselves. As Pink Floyd wrote "...Leave those kids alone..."
I really hope private schools & and public schools with the cajones needed choose to ignore his order. What would Newsom do, send in armed agents to close down the school? That would be a great look.
This is an example of why we needed to fight harder to split the state years back. We are literally captives to a tyrant. Any chance Arizona will come to our rescue and annex the counties south of LA?

Put more succinctly, Gavin Newsom is a shithead. He's an empty suit driven by two things -- political opportunism and the desire to keep Californians frightened and broke until the election (which is unnecessary since the state is a blue lock anyway).

I've heard some serious discussion, debate on lawsuits against the state and newsroom coming out of this, there are those (legals) that believe students have a RIGHT to attend school. There is also statistics showing the lesser class or less advantage districts not being able to provide distance education properly.
Again, as I have stated from the get go, anarchy in all sorts of forms will rise from the actions implemented starting back in March.

School closures have nothing to do with science or safety. It's all politics.
DEFUND GAVIN NEWSOM.
DEFUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS. The teacher's unions who refuse to teach the kids who need it the most have declared themselves inessential and expendable.

One of the CSU officials made an interesting point in that if they leave it up the State Legislature to decide, then it opens the door for other parties to introduce classes into the curriculum. Interesting hypothetical they use: a right leaning legislature requiring a mandatory creationism class...
