... But when they open back up, the students will find themselves having to take this new required course I can't see this as a big deal, especially since pubic school kids have essentially already been subjected to ethnic studies classes for 12 years. It's just a gesture, like many other pointless general ed courses. Go to class, take notes, read the book, take the final, and then forget everything the minute you walk out the door -- just like Sociology or Art Appreciation 101.

Really? How about requirements that include conservative values, religious studies, US Constitution, parenting, policing crime, basic economic study, or media bias?
Do you also have to register as a democrat to pass this f'n course?

The CSU decision just solidifies the progressive indoctrination of the younger folk in this country; it’s a little scary.

I trust the unintended consequence(s) of this idiotic mandate will be several solidly conservative students on every class I had a group of friends (including myself) labeled “the young republicans” in law school. We objected to our professors applauding the passing of Scalia, the attack of second amendment rights and the like. Liberalism runs rampant in all education.

Servite has delayed its opening of school by three weeks--until August 31--in the hope that either O.C. is off Governor Newsom's "naughty list" by then so that we can begin school in person, or that one of the various lawsuits filed against him allow the same.
My advice to our administration (which doesn't mean much) is to go ahead and open with in-person instruction come what may, and tell Gavin Newsom to pound sand. Dare him to take action. Since we are not a diocesan school, we've got a measure of independence that MD and SM don't have, so I say go with it. Waiting for idiot Newsom's "permission" is an exercise in futility. That ain't happening until at least November 5.
If we take a stand and open in person we'll quickly have a waiting list of families wanting to enroll from public schools who are content to stay with substandard online instruction.

I completely agree. These teacher unions--like most unions--are drunk on their own power and lack of self-awareness and have picked the wrong time to decide to show their irrelevance. Democrats always go too far when they think they have some advantage--and it usually bites them in the butt.

This isn't California but the CTA and many of the state's local teacher's unions are in league with these sentiments. Teacher's unions are a cancer on education and could care less for the kids they're supposed to be educating. Private schools are not unionized and so avoid these kinds of self-serving tendencies.

From that photo, you can once again notice that all the "protesters" are white people in their 20's.

We have two school districts here, locally. Unit 5 is larger District 87 is smaller... pay close attention, this might get hard to follow: This begins about 3 weeks ago, right after the Illinois High School Association announced reordering “contact sports” schedules into late Winter and Spring: - Unit 5 announced schools reopen in September
- District 87 announced schools might reopen in September
- Some Teachers and all Karens scream about killing our children and elderly teachers.
- Unit 5 changes its mind, schools WILL reopen in September, but also offer remote learning for those who desire
- District 87 decides schools will reopen in September, but students can also opt out for remote learning instead (note, the different language is important because one district can NEVER be seen actually following the lead of another)
- Governor declares resurgence of COVID is dire and orders all schools closed (which authority he does not have, according to a judge who adjudicated a lawsuit against him
- Unit 5 AND District 87 announce, just this morning, all schools will be closed for the fall semester.
i urge you boys to flee California with haste...
Just don’t come to Illinois.

We always hear about how teachers are "essential" and so important, how they should be paid more. Yet at a time when other "essential" workers like nurses, policemen and the dude working at Home Depot show up for work, teachers unions grasp their pearls and claim we are trying to kill their members by having them go back to work.
Please treat the teachers union the same as Reagan treated the air traffic controllers union when they went on strike back in the 80's. If any of their members don't show up for work after a specified date, they are fired & replaced. We have plenty of educated, unemployed folks in the country that could teach elementary & high school kids without having to get a teaching degree. Heck, I'll do it as long as I get to run my classroom the same way classrooms were run when I was at St. Pius & Servite. I guarantee the kids in my class will learn the subject I'm teaching.

Name a union that complains more than the teachers union...
I’ll wait.

Name a union that complains more than the teachers union... I’ll wait. The MLB, NFL, and NBA players unions might give the teachers a run for their money, but that's only because professional athletes are so underpaid and underappreciated.
