I have read the PROPOSED LEGISLATION TO LIMIT TERMS OF SUPREME COURT JUSTICES and, first, my observations: - Even fast tracked, it could... likely would...take at least 2-3 years to fashion this into a constitutional amendment.
- By the time a president actually starts making their 2 appointments per term, maybe 20-25 years from now.
- This legislation has been authored by Congressman Khanna, whose district in California just happens to adjoin Nancy Pelosi’s at the south end of SF Bay.
my understanding from the text of the legislation: Section 2.7 My understanding of this is, it starts immediately (upon enactment) but gives no bye to existing justices, so apparently their existing term counts against their 18 years. It also mandates (as opposed to “allows”) the presidential appointments. Section 2.8
Apparently they have abandoned the “pack the court” idea to limit it to only 9 justices. But this tells me a Justice might not will ever reach his or her 18 years since every President will appoint 2 new justices each term, and there are already 9 justices on the SCOTUS bench. Or maybe I’m just not doing the math accurately. It still seems a sloppy way to determine who will stay and who will go. Section 2.9
This section is just the “hissy fit”section thrown in there by the stunt democrats, angry at McConnell... but I cannot say as I completely disagree with it. Section 3
This would be O.K. if I understand it correctly: Any Justice kicked out (a.k.a. “Retired”) by this process can, if willing and able, serve as a justice in a lower court.
I am more concerned about term limits for Congress and would quickly support this IF an addendum was added requiring them... but overall, despite it coming out now on the heels of the democrat hissy fits, I’m not entirely opposed to the idea. I will appreciate your thoughts and any corrections you see are needed to my understanding.

Mark Levin broached this subject a few years ago in his book Liberty Amendments.
Completely agree with term limits of all public servants. I think George Washington first talked about the notion way back then.

Just think. Pelosi would be just a distant bad memory if this was in effect.

I think George Washington first talked about the notion way back then. Yes, Washington could probably have been president for as long as he lived, and he was urged to serve a third term. However, he felt political office should be a temporary public service position rather than a career profession, after which one returned to one's real livelihood. Boy, how times have changed. Washington would have been aghast at someone like Joe Biden who has served in various political offices for half a century and has little to show for it.

What comes to my mind is the Congress littered with the likes of Maxine Waters... imagine what she would do without her elected seat decades after decades...., you might find her as a hostess at the local IHOP!

Or living on the street with a line of hobos outside her tent with a dollar in each of their hands...

If you do term limits, you need it to limit any & all public service, not just a particular job. Otherwise you end up with people like Jerry Brown, running around getting different government jobs and serving a limited term in each. He bounced around as Secretary of State for California, then Governor, then mayor of Oakland, then attorney general and then his second run as Governor.
Force these goofs to make a living in the private sector for some portion of their life.

RSM, that sounds good, except then we'd never get a president, senator or a governor with any lower level experience. We'd have a constant stream of Donald Trumps, Michelle Obamas and Kanye Wests in the Oval Office.

Trump has shown an ability to get things done that those with much more lower level experience can't (or don't). As was said during the debate, Trump did more in 47 months than Biden did in 47 years. If someone was a political animal & they had presidential ambitions, they would be forced to spend some time in the private sector before they made their run. Or be very picky about what political positions they took. It would eliminate the swamp.

Seems those guys really understood what a public servant was. Need some of that

I wouldn't want to buck the odds by electing a rookie every four years. Except a person who has run multi-million dollar companies is not a rookie. They have more skills running an organization than any Senator, no matter how long they have been in office. The presidency is called the executive branch for a reason. Its not like you are taking some kid who just got fired from McDonalds and electing him president.
