we seem to have entered some macabre contest between NY, CA, MI, and IL to see who can fall the furthest, the fastest. Maybe the first state to hit rock bottom gets some kind of brass ring. Would that not be c*ck bottom gets the brass ring!

I’m no fan of Sasse... to me he is one of those who don’t understand conservatives... but he might be onto something here: Senator Sasse on the Internal Battle' Between 'Conservatism' and 'Short Term-ism' in GOPI agree the GOP should have a discussion on the direction of the party, particularly if the rumors about Trump starting his own party prove out. in my opinion, Sasse is not the only GOP politician who does not understand Conservatism. thoughts?

IMHO, Ben Sasse is in love with his own self-perceived virtue. His impeachment vote indicates he has no respect for facts, evidence, free speech, or the Constitution of the United States.
He may be talking, but no one's listening.

I’m talking about Roger Stone. That’s just bizarre.

To answer the question implied by the title of this tread: Unless conservatives start fighting back with the same passion and intensity as liberals do, they don't HAVE a future. At least not a relevant one.

I'm not sure today's GOP is the way to go IF rebuilding the party's effectiveness is a goal... or THE goal. Notwithstanding the malfeasance of the democrats at which the Republicans, by and large, sat around doing nothing, recent moves within the party don't really sit well with me: First, I sort-of understand TRUMP STARTING HIS OWN COMMUNICAIONS PLATFORM because the rest of them shut him out, but he doesn't allow anyone to comment on his thoughts (again, which I do sort-of understand). BUT, we also have MITT ROMNEY BOO'D by the UTAH GOP conference, and, then he is CENSURED BY WEBER COUNTY, UTAH REPUBLICANS who are joined and supported by Utah Senators and Representatives... But, then, we also have LIZ CHENEY BEING OUSTED FROM HOUSE LEADERSHIP ROLE for, near as I can tell, not fawning over Trump (after Trump publicly excoriated her). Don't get me wrong, I think Romney SHOULD be held responsible for some of the decisions he's made (which I see as simply him pandering to the left-center as he plans another run for the top job); and Liz Cheney really needs to figure out on which side her bread is buttered, but do you think: - Are these indicators of a new Republican shift to the right? and
- if so, is it a shift the GOP SHOULD be making?
What are your thoughts?

The problem is it is hard to stick to principles and win. Swamp creatures get the money behind them and win. Trump wasn't liked by the party. Remember when they made him sign an agreement that he would support whoever the nominee would be? The establishment didn't think he had a chance. He said everyone needed to sign it. But then when a non-swamp creature won - Trump - Cruz, Bush, and others didn't support him right away.
Trump is still the leader of the party, despite the swamp's attempts to smear him. He has the support of the people.

Republicans have lost the popular vote in seven of the last eight presidential elections. Trump himself never broke 50% in his presidential approval ratings...a feat not accomplished previously. Congratulations on being in the solid minority.
