While I've never been on a debate team, I've certainly done my share of defending a point I have not necessarily agreed with.
I want to say most of these forums slant heavily, or are at least dominated by the prevailing thought, and that generally leads to an echo chamber of sorts.
Some recent private conversations here got me thinking about how to tackle the subjects here, but to gain a reasoned position that articulates the opposing views on these subjects.
If any of you are game, I propose we divide up into two teams that would argue opposing positions on the issue of Critical Race Theory. If nothing else, I'm hopeful we can get to the root of what's being proposed v being dismissive about the notion.
I'll be on the pro CRT side.
Any takers?

I will hate it, but I'll take pro-CRT, as well.

This will be interesting to see how many objective points we can defend.
Anyone else want to join the rebellion?

Bick and Dave, while I admire your courage, I question your understanding of what you're signing up for. In order to defend a position in a debate, one has to both understand the position on a deep level, and believe that it makes some sort of sense. Can you really claim that understanding and belief of critical race theory?

I don't think so... many over at TOB, including our special ed student here, argue most topics without knowing ANYTHING about them, beyond what they might read in a headline. I'm hoping Bick and I have at least a mildly better understanding of CRT than they do about... well, anything.

Maybe so... but, after all, Bick and I are volunteering to argue FOR Critical Race Theory. I'm not sure how much anyone can expect.

You will argue for a point you for the most part do not agree with........ hmmm....., or do you?
Is kinda like walk a mile in another mans (pick your gender bender) shoes...?
When choosing the opposing view to defend, I realize there is a hope that one may see something not seen before, maybe even felt. I do however understand this yet on this board taking side (for the heck of it) could get ugly within the family of "echo chamber" as Bick describes.
Side note, I am so throughly disgusted with the present moment and everything "RACE" that I am not sure I would want to endure more of my free time to it..... I might have to sit this one out, unless it's MDDad & I against Bick & Dave, you know the two white Austrians representing WHITE PRIVILEGE!! And makes perfect sense as with both can represent as a team our preceived ELITIST schools in Orange County!! Bwahahaa!

So it's been 22 hours. When does this great debate begin?

Since the term, "critical race theory" is so emotionally charged, and likely misunderstood, I will attempt to refrain from using it in my treatment of it so those following can focus on my words, and not on some mental image the term evokes.
No one can deny minority neighborhoods are over-policed. Likewise, no non-minority person can deny they do not look twice at a minority male approaching them; some even crossing the street or ducking into a building to avoid getting too close.
These and many others are symptoms of a society that is overly sensitive to race and, for non-minority citizens, an indicator of their feelings of superiority.
Kimberlé Crenshaw, a law professor who teaches at UCLA and Columbia University, believes that racism is an everyday experience for most people of color, and that a large part of society has no interest in doing away with it because it benefits primarily Whites. she helped develop a theory to help with understanding between the races. As she puts it,

Hell - with half the stuff being debated here and elsewhere, how many truly have a deep understanding of the topics we're discussing?

...how many truly have a deep understanding of the topics we're discussing? I can think of only one peson who has a deep understanding of every topic ever discussed, but most of us have him on ignore.
