While they're jerking themselves off trying to figure out why those low life "confused" POS think killing innocents is their way to express themselves, I'm going to protect my grandkids with armed military, and I'll explain to them how those guys are there to protect them. IDGAF whose feelings get hurt, or care to wring my hands yet again why it happened. I KNOW this protects them.
End of f'n story.

There's a serious lack of morality in this country right now and I think it has a LOT to do with the internet.

What about military service? Do you support boosting the age to 25 or 30? No, the lower limit for military service should remain at 18. I don't see the similarities between joining the military to defend your country and buying an assault rifle to shoot up an elementary school classroom. are we talking GUNS or ASSAULT RIFLES here, asking the gun or assault rifle age restricters...?

Why do you think schools get hit? SOFT TARGETS. Why did planes get jacked before 911? Soft targets....., the best solution is any illegal possession or use of a firearm carries a HUGE sentence. Hardening the target is EXACTLY where to start. Everything else falls in the "at least we're doing something so it looks like we're appeasing our base" category. How to harden the target, that won't cost us an extra nickel 1. Station a member of the armed forces / national guard at each school. There's about 700 schools in OC, and 40,000 marines stationed at Camp Pendelton. That alone would provide enough pause for any silly sonofabitch with a gun thinking he was going to make a name for himself. Here you go....., tough times for our youth, if I could i would turn back the generational clock for them...

I understand and appreciate the sentiment, but it ain't the end of the f'n story. Blowing away the random guy trying to break into your home and harm your family doesn't address the problem. Sooner or later your gun is going to jam, or the attack will happen when you're not home, and you'll still be the victim of the problem. Protecting one's home with military weapons was never necessary for the entire 20th century, so why is it now?

You are home and your gun doesn't jam.You just reduced your chances of being a victim by 33%.By the way, there is no such category of guns called "assault rifles." You know darn well, that if we agree to ban "assault rifles," that will only satisfy the left for maybe a minute, before they start planning their next campaign to ban all semi-auto rifles, saying, "well these semi-auto rifles do everything that 'assault rifles' can do."

We are headed for a dark future if we get rid of the second amendment. No one wants children to be killed. I agree with you Bick, harden the targets like schools. When I went to college we had armed police at the school, and that was nearly 50 years ago.

I'm suggesting active military be assigned to each school, not me with an AR-15 at home.

Seems to be continuous breakdowns in the system.
Why was an 18 year old buying these types of weapons? How did an 18 year old buy almost 400 rounds in two days? Why wasn't this kid given help after all the bizarre incidents?
People seem to be very quick in reporting racist behavior, but not dangerous behavior such as this...

imagine the database of US Citizens under 30 being target, buying your first house in your 20's and not being able to protect yourself and allowing the world to make "soft targets" of those under 30? Come on, SK, let's get real. There are millions and millions of Americans in their 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's and older buying a home without a gun to protect it. The fact that so many people, apparently like yourself, think a gun is vital to protect their homes is a symptom of the problem. Are armed home invasions really that common in Corona del Mar? I'm being very real, my example of a homeowner is just one of many in my belief SOFT targets become the victim, its fact, its logic, its real..... Are these kids walking into banks or airports with armed security or schools with passive administration and defenseless children? Nowhere in my example did I state having a gun in "vital" to protecting ones home. If a electric fence or Doberman Pincher is your choice so be it. As for affluent areas of our region, guess you don't mind the news of late the escalating home invasions on the west side of LA, especially Beverly Hills. "Let's get real". Lastly, you do know what an "ASSAULT WEAPON" is right, you're references in this thread show you do not. Assault Weapons or in this instance if you are referring to the recent school shooting in Texas in which you state "Military Assault Rifles" were purchased is not accurate. Assault weapons have been banned from sale to the population for longer than any of us here have been alive. Repeatedly in the gun debate, especially politically speaking, this term is always misused and misunderstood. By U.S. Army definition, a selective-fire rifle chambered for a cartridge of intermediate power. If applied to any semi-automatic firearm regardless of its cosmetic similarity to a true assault rifle, the term is incorrect.Looking at these recent horrific events and the one that we are focused on now, the rifle used in the Texas elementary school shooting is known as a “DDM4 Rifle.” It's modeled after the M4 carbine, the U.S. military’s go-to rifle, the gun’s maker is Daniel Defense. Like most guns that get dubbed "Assault Weapons", they are not, they mimic in style and looks. An assault rifle has to meet a number of criteria
It must be rapid-fire. It must be magazine fed. It allows the shooter to switch between semi-automatic, fully automatic, or three-shot burst mode.
These so AR STYLE weapons are semi-automatic.
AR stands for Armalite Rifles, the name of the company that designed the rifle in the 1950s. The Armalite company’s design and subsequent ties to the military M16 rifle has led to endless confusion with AR-15 rifles. In fact, civilian sporting rifles like the AR-15 and AR-10 are mistakenly associated with their military counterparts based on looks alone rather than very different operation.
My point is, there are no KOOKS or THUGS running around America buying and shooting MILITARY GRADE WEAPONS on the streets or in our schools.
This also follows the Merriam Webster assault rifle definition. However, the dictionary also includes a secondary definition to include rifles that resemble military assault rifles, but are only designed for semi-automatic fire. Most people knowledgeable about firearms would not include this second definition at all.
To have honest further debate, we as a society need to stop with the fear and buzz words that trip emotion at an emotional time. Ramping up the issue with hype does not a problem solve. Our politicians and media have failed us on this again as they do so often.
At this time we do need to defend the defenseless, until we can get a better grip on the root of this problem. The real problem is from the bottom up, the mind, mental illness, underlying social ills in our society. What kind of product from a society, shoots his grandmother in the face, posts it on social media, then walks into a classroom and shoots innocent defenseless children in a massive way? Add to that an act of such is certainly suicidal. Anyone notice the historic suicide rate in 2021? The escalation in violence in general and the wave of mass shootings coinciding? Is this not a better place to start I ask?

Let me add this, my stance and what I have been an ardent supporter of with this issue..., tough laws against criminals, further efforts to understand, mitigate, monitor mental illness in our society. Going back to 2013, the Democrats filibustered this act put forth by Ted Cruz and Chuck Grassley. Why on earth? Because the Democrats have never been about looking out for you, their agenda was to give safe space or place to criminals, and to stick it to law abiding citizens, especially gun owners or Second Amendment supporters also known to them as majority Conservative or Republican.
“In 2013, I introduced legislation called Grassley-Cruz, which targeted felons and fugitives and those with serious mental illness. It directed the Department of Justice to do an audit of federal convictions to make sure felons are in the database. It directed the Department of Justice to prosecute and put in jail felons and fugitives who try to illegally buy firearms. That vote in the Harry Reid, Democrat Senate…a majority of the Senate voted in favor of Grassley-Cruz, but the Democrats filibustered it. They demanded 60 votes. They defeated it because they wanted to go after law-abiding citizens instead of stopping the bad guys. We need to stop the bad guys.”

I have always said the outcome of such games will be very well trained tactical military soldiers or crazed mass killers....., I do not play these games but have watched them..., mass killing as entertainment which for some become reality. These are societal discussions we should be having.

But how will stationing a Marine at the entrance(s) of schools really help things? The lunatic with a semi-automatic rifle (happy now, SK?) can just go to a post office, a grocery store, a place of business, an apartment complex, an office building, a hotel, a city hall, a hospital or any other facility where there are people and carry out the same atrocity. By hardening schools, we are just shifting the problem to another site. If the solution is to harden all of them, suddenly those 40,000 Marines at Camp Pendleton aren't nearly enough.

I think it would be close to impossible to harden every target, but I think the most vulnerable, like schools and hospitals, should be the top priority and could be accomplished relatively easily.
