Clearly not all of these can be prevented, anymore than you can stop evil on earth.
However, since we got serious about air traffic safety after 9-11, there have been ZERO hi-jackings.
Isn't that where we should start?

I'm a huge proponent of the right to bear arms. However, a kid that just turned 18 shouldn't be able to walk into a gun shop and buy two military assault rifles.
With that said, this country has been awash in guns for well over a century, yet mass shootings like this are a very recent phenomenon. Something else has rotted in this country making these kinds of events so commonplace.

I agree. 18 is too young. Lately, I think 21 is too young.
Increase age to 25...or 30.
Pretty much eliminates any gang member from legally being in possession of a gun.
But to your point, it hasn't worked out real well being a God-less world.

you can't own a gun until you are 30? Uh uh....., imagine the database of US Citizens under 30 being target, buying your first house in your 20's and not being able to protect yourself and allowing the world to make "soft targets" of those under 30? Why do you think schools get hit? SOFT TARGETS. Why did planes get jacked before 911? Soft targets....., the best solution is any illegal possession or use of a firearm carries a HUGE sentence.

Yes, this is a recent phenomenon and it has a lot to do with the internet / social media. Columbine in 1999 was the blue print for these crazies and there are plenty of like minded feeding off each other via social media.

Come on, SK, let's get real. There are millions and millions of Americans in their 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's and older buying a home without a gun to protect it. The fact that so many people, apparently like yourself, think a gun is vital to protect their homes is a symptom of the problem. Are armed home invasions really that common in Corona del Mar? |

Hardening the target is EXACTLY where to start. Everything else falls in the "at least we're doing something so it looks like we're appeasing our base" category. How to harden the target, that won't cost us an extra nickel 1. Station a member of the armed forces / national guard at each school. There's about 700 schools in OC, and 40,000 marines stationed at Camp Pendelton. That alone would provide enough pause for any silly sonofabitch with a gun thinking he was going to make a name for himself. |

What about military service? Do you support boosting the age to 25 or 30? If you're talking about whether or not a veteran would be allowed to purchase a weapon, I'd say they, and members of law enforcement would be exceptions. |

Hardening the target is EXACTLY where to start. I'm not sure I agree, just as stitching up a vagina is not the way to prevent rape. What makes this country different from other civilized nations is that, for reasons I can't fathom, some individuals in our society happily do things like this for whatever twisted reason they might entertain. The "why" of that is what needs to be addressed. I suggest one reason is that the left has attacked and in some cases destroyed every pillar of our society that used to provide us with stability, sanity, purpose and a moral compass -- God, religion, patriotism, the nuclear family, sex and gender, the purpose of schools and colleges, the movies, television, popular music, sports, news reporting and a million other things. For God's sake, we now have Supreme Court justices who don't know what a woman is. What do these borderline kids who turn into shooters have left in their lives to keep them from veering off the road? |
