@bick, can we pin a College Football thread...? Thnx, interested board resident. I am gonna start with what I watched last night out at the LA Coliseum...... a Freshman school passing record at USC is big stuff. Trojan route the Cardinal. How do you think J.T. feels now about this new connection to Ama St. B.

He ain't in the Trinity League any more....
I sincerely wish J.T. the best of luck, and I hope the many HSFB players who have been told for years that they walk on water realize that at the next level and beyond fortunes can change radically on a dime. There are no guarantees and no rewards based on potential alone.

I sincerely wish J.T. the best of luck, and I hope the many HSFB players who have been told for years that they walk on water realize that at the next level and beyond fortunes can change radically on a dime... When my son was a freshman at Tesoro, Matt Poston (current varsity head coach) was the head coach for the Freshman team. At the first meeting with all of the parents, he said that he was aware that many parents just know how special their son is and how there are expectations for him to play football in college and possibly beyond. He continued that he wanted to put into perspective how things were at each level. He began by saying at the high school varsity level, there will be one game during the year where there will be one player on the opposing team who has very unique skills & abilities. At the college level, at every game, there will be one player on the opposing team that falls into that category. At the pro level, every player on the field is that player. He went on to explain he gives parents this example not to bring down their hopes for their son, but rather to fully enjoy the experience their son has during his time playing high school football. Don't look at high school football as a stepping stone, it is its own entity. If it does lead to playing in the upper levels, great, but don't ruin the present with unrealistic expectations of the future. A few years later, Tesoro's D9 champion varsity team included Scottie McKnight, who set receiving records at Colorado but never played a down in the NFL, Sean Calcagnie, who had back to back 400 rushing games in the CIF playoffs, but never played a down as a walk-on at USC and Joe Robles, one of the most accurate and long kickers in OC football history who blew out his knee prior to getting to play at Cal. The player who went the furthest was Christian Yount, the teams long snapper who made the NFL, playing a year for Tampa Bay and 3 years for Cleveland. The special player they played against? Derrick Coleman, who they faced in the 2005 playoffs in a great game against Troy.

Hmmmm, maybe that big "V" was the perfect window to start anew......, how is the SC coaching staff sleeping tonight.....?
USC Athletic Director Lynn Swann resigns effective immediately 247sports.com/college/usc/Article/Lynn-Swann-resigns-as-usc-athletic-director-Carol-Folt-email-USC-Trojans-football--135411637/?utm_source=247Sports%20Newsletter&utm_medium=Newsletter&utm_campaign=190909_150643_USC%20Trojans&utm_content=Link&liveconnect=B8-EF-B6-1A-41-C6-8C-47-81-58-DC-D6-E9-89-30-61190909_150643USCTrojansThe Lynn Swann era at USC has come to a close.
The embattled athletic director and legendary USC receiver has resigned effective immediately, per an email sent by new university president Carol Folt on Monday afternoon. Special advisor to the president Dave Roberts will take over as the interim athletic director. Here are excerpts of Folt's letter to the USC community:
I am writing to share my sincere appreciation for Lynn Swann, who has decided to resign from his position as the Director of Athletics effective today. Lynn has been a leader on and off the field at USC for nearly five decades, and he will forever be a valued member of the Trojan family. Lynn has led our Athletics Department to five national championships in five different women’s and men’s sports during his tenure. Our student-athletes’ cumulative GPA for the past two years and our graduation rate of 86% last year were all-time highs for USC Athletics. We appreciate Lynn’s leadershipof the department over these past three years and will continue to be grateful for his historic contributions to USC.
Folt also introduced the committee that will handle the search for USC's new athletic director:
"I am pleased to introduce the committee who will conduct the national search for our next, permanent athletic director. USC Trustee Suzanne Nora Johnson will chair the search committee, which includes alumni representative Bill Allen; Vice President for Student Affairs Winston Crisp; Faculty Athletics Representative Alan Green; Academic Senate President Rebecca Lonergan; Provost Charles Zukoski; and trustees Jeff Smulyan, William McMorrow, and Board Chair Rick Caruso. Importantly, the committee will also include two student-athletes, who will be named shortly. The position will be filled with an experienced and accomplished individual..."

Garbers with a huge game at Ole Miss. Yes indeed! It took a CDM SEA KING for the Pac-12 to finally beat the SEC !Chase Garbers’ 4 TD throws and a clutch tackle lead No. 23 Cal past Mississippi www.sfgate.com/collegesports/article/Chase-Garbers-4-TDs-and-a-clutch-tackle-lead-14458215.php#photo-18302422Cal quarterback Chase Garbers threw for four touchdowns and 357 yards passing in Saturday’s win at Ole Miss. Photo: Thomas Graning / Associated PressThe last-minute heroics almost overshadowed a brilliant performance from Chase Garbers, who threw for four touchdowns and finished 23 of 35 for 357 yards. Touchdown passes of 9 and 60 yards to Jordan Duncan and Jake Tonges, respectively, on the opening two possessions of the second half preserved a lead Cal never surrendered.
“Chase was awesome. It’s not even close. That’s the best game he has played,” Wilcox said. “The receivers did a really nice job. I was impressed how Chase looked so comfortable. He was really confident out there.”

Anybody else catch the UCLA @ Washington St. game last night? The Bruins down 49-17 midway through the 3rd quarter, looking like a team that has quit, proceed to outscore the Cougars 50-14 the rest of the way to win 67-63 in regulation. Unbelievable.

That was off the charts..... I watched and even I started to fade (Zzzzz) during the comeback and thought heck at least they will make it respectful loss. Damn, that E.H. Taylor "small batch" knocked me out. Not till this mornings coffee brew did I se the UCLA win....

The Washington St. QB has to be thinking "I threw 9 touchdown passes and the game ends when I get sacked & fumbled, WTF?".

The QB position and situation is harrowing...., so much focus on the positioning roll.... the QB news in the PAC-12 is just nuts every week..., local boy Costelli at Stanford injured, look at USC and that situation with JT out for the year, then the freshman back up comes in and gets injured giving third string man Matt Fink a shot and all this with the departure of Jack Sears because he thought he would never see a minute! And now Cal's Barbers whom had his team as the only undefeated Pac-12 team goes down on a freak fall and is out indefinitely.... Cal Football: Is the Bears' Season Doomed Without QB Chase Garbers? Is Cal’s 2019 season doomed now that quarterback Chase Garbers will be sidelined for at least several weeks?
Without question the Bears’ task is more difficult now without Garbers, who was on the brink of becoming a first-rate Pac-12 quarterback. He had the best performances of his career in the past two games, against Mississippi and Arizona State.
So in will step Tesoro's Devin Monster..... When I see all this is there any wonder is mis match high school games we see the great QB's rested an entire half in these blow out games.... freak injuries end seasons....
