The trouble is, you could reasonably argue their acceptance of slavery and selective use of scripture to support it was less than moral.
As a country, we've openly accepted the mistreatment of Native Americans, and immigrant Asians without giving it a second thought because it either benefited us or calmed our collective fears.
How can we now legitimately claim the moral high ground over states expanding their acceptance of sexuality we believe crosses yet another line?
I believe morality stems from religion. If it doesn't, then it is completely arbitrary. If there are no religion-based moral reasons for our societal rules, then they are all open to challenge. Without religious morality, why should murder be illegal, or rape, or robbery, or child molestation? The left has made great strides in destroying the religious basis for our laws that define right and wrong, and now it's fair game for anything to be declared legal or illegal at the whim of whoever is in power at the time.
