I wouldn't consider them home grown unless they were Catholic school kids from the area diocese. In fact, I'd bet a bottle from SK80's cellar that of the 22 starters last season, less than 5 were. I thnk it's important to recognize and accept the "captive market" for public and private schools. If there are no drastic changes in demographics, most public high schools can count on enrolling 1,500 to 2,000 students every year because all the high school age kids in their enrollment areas are obligated to attend unless they jump through bureaucratic hoops to attend another public school. Private high schools don't have any kind of similar guaranteed supply of students. Mater Dei is located in a poor section of Santa Ana. Tuition this year is $18,200 for Catholic students, and will rise to $19,150 next year, and the percentage of local families who can manage that figure is very small. If MD had to rely on local Catholic feeder schools for its enrollment, it's hard to imagine a student body count of more than one or two hundred kids. Survival requires that they market the school far beyond such geographic limits and Catholic-only students. And of the 28 players last year who either started or played more than half the snaps, four were from Huntington Beach and six more were from Santa Ana, Los Alamitos, Irvine, Orange, Anaheim and Mission Viejo. Only the last two had Catholic high schools (Servite and JSerra) that were closer to their homes. So about 35% of our "starters" can be considered home grown if you consider their private school options more important than their distance from the school.

Went to Saint Anthony's in Long Beach in the early 70's. 100% of the kids on the team came from local Catholic elementary schools.
How many of your starters came from St Anne's, St Joseph or Immaculate Heart?
Not finding fault, just curious.
I'd ask the same if the Fry boys here... Then and now.

I had PF flyers and ran faster and jumped higher than everyone else That's because those goddamn Flyers had little propellers and jetpacks built into the soles.

pray tell Who is going to back up Davison and share the work load? Right now it looks like senior Trenton Dunn and sophomore Kennie Leggett, who replaced Caleb Bey on the frosh team. But we were secretly hoping you had some high school eligibility left.

translation: he wasn't going to be the #1 QB in 2024. Wasn't all that impressed with what I saw in 2023.

Don't be surprised if he doesn't end up at Tustin in the fall. May be on his way to Canyon Springs in Vegas.

If true, the Robinson boys xfer to Narbonne to join Newport xfer QB O'Neal has to raise some eyebrows on the LA City side of things.
Sondy might go ape on this one
