Judge blocks California law requiring background checks to buy ammo www.kcra.com/article/judge-blocks-california-law-requiring-background-checks-to-buy-ammo/32259333#
A federal judge on Thursday blocked a California law requiring background checks for people buying ammunition, issuing a sharply worded rebuke of “onerous and convoluted” regulations that violate the constitutional right to bear arms.
U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez in San Diego ruled in favor of the California Rifle & Pistol Association, which asked him to stop the checks and related restrictions on ammo sales.
“The experiment has been tried. The casualties have been counted. California’s new ammunition background check law misfires and the Second Amendment rights of California citizens have been gravely injured,” Benitez wrote in a 120-page opinion granting the group's motion for a preliminary injunction.

Something to note how over the past 2 months, there has been no mass shootings in the US and very little gun violence (at least reported).
While at first glance the lack of mass shootings would make sense, there still are large groups of people at grocery stores or Costco type businesses. If someone wanted to shoot one of those places up, there would be an abundance of targets. However, there would also be a higher probability that someone or multiple people in the crowd would be packing (due to basic societal security concerns). I wonder if the 2nd factor influences the first.
Most importantly, I believe this drop in shootings illustrates how guns are not the problem. We have had a major drop in the number of shootings during a time that gun ownership has gone up. The guns are not running around shooting people. Rather, those who would choose to commit such a crime have a more difficult time in pulling it off, so apparently they have stopped trying.
The only negative is that the left may pick up on this and recommend we shut down the country to save us from guns.

One of the many arguments I had on the other board dealt with the "need" for an AR-15 type of weapon. I don't own one, but am now considering getting one. All it takes is for these looting mobs to start into the residential areas, and we'll have some serious consequences. Well, on my street anyway. Cops with families live on both sides of the street.

I sure hope nobody in the "mob" feels the same way you do or you'll have quite the firefight on your hands. IMO being afraid of an angry mob is just what the NRA wants you to feel. Seriously Bick, get yourself a 12 ga. pump shotgun. you'll be safe and you won't look like a crazy person.

The left again like so many arguments during this "crisis" has flushed another talking point down the political sewer....., when you have LARGE MAJOR US CITIES led by liberals having their law enforcement stand down, turn tail and run, there is no longer a guarantee that any government is there to protect you, your family and property. Game on, defend yourselves at all time. Americans get this, gun sales have risen dramatically. The "Founding Fathers" knew this even more so.

I don't need the NRA to make me feel anything, but what I witnessed first hand certainly did. There's not nearly enough cops to provide anything that resembles security in the neighborhood. But to your last point, my neighbors who are weapons proficient agree with you, and recommended a Remington shot gun and a Glock 19. But if the appearance of looking like a crazy guy acted as a deterrent for anyone wanting to do my family harm, I'd be in favor of it. What I do know is that no one seemed to bother the businesses that were protected by those AR-15 armed rednecks. Maybe not so crazy.

One sure way to get more cops on the scene, in a bad mood and ready to rumble, is to close all the doughnut shops.

One of the arguments many who are for gun control have made is that with armed citizens, you will end up with firefights all of the time. The last few days have disproved that theory. Most of those who own firearms do for for defensive purposes, so they have not initiated any gun battles with rioters or looters. Those in the mobs are too cowardly to carry a firearm, for they know it will end up in their death when they meet up with a citizen or cop who is also armed, but much better trained.

I spoke too soon, cops in a half dozen cities were shot last night, most notably in St. Louis. I'll amend my statement that a huge majority of the mob are too cowardly to carry a firearm. There now appears to be a few that do, but if it becomes a firefight, you will see the less committed members of the mob hightail it back to moms basement.

The Remington will protect you and your family just fine and it won't cost you $1000 and spray bullets all over the neighborhood. Personally I don't like Glocks but they do carry a lot of rounds and are very reliable, so sure. I doubt anyone bothered businesses that were protected by guys with shotguns either.
