Where the heck did they take this photo?... I believe that is the Servite gym, at least that is how I remember it looking. I am no fan of bay Area sports teams, but that Warriors team got the least amount of coverage for a championship team. They manhandled a very good Washington Bullets team, beat them 4-0 and barely got a mention in Sports illustrated. One of 4 NBA titles for for Jaamal (Keith) Wilkes, one of the most underrated players in NBA history. In the infamous game 6 of the 1980 finals, everyone knows that Magic stepped in for Kareem and scored 42 points, but without attracting any attention, Silk scored 37 with 10 boards to help the Lakers take that title. In 1985, when John Wooden was asked to describe his ideal player, he replied "I would have the player be a good student, polite, courteous, a good team player, a good defensive player and rebounder, a good inside player and outside shooter. Why not just take Jamaal Wilkes and let it go at that."

Rick Barry #24 in that picture was no slouch either.

Future teammates face off against each other in--I'm guessing--about 1974. Was he already Kareem at that point, or was he still Lew Alcindor? (not being argumentative, I just don’t remember when the change took lace)

He officially adopted the name Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on May 1, 1971, the day after leading the Milwaukee Bucks to the NBA Championship.

Arguably two of the greatest basketball floor visionaries ever. (Behind Magic Johnson, of course.)

Is this the most politically-incorrect sports branding ever? Texas, guns, and cigarettes!!! My great-uncle (by marriage) was a minority owner in the Colts back in the 1960's and I still have a Texas-shaped ash tray with the Colts logo that my mother was given by him many decades ago.

Interesting. I don't remember them ever being called the Colts...just the Colt 45s.

Interesting. I don't remember them ever being called the Colts...just the Colt 45s. I think that was merely shorthand for Colt .45s.

Credo, you're correct. They were the Colt .45's for their first three years before becoming the Astros.

We didn't need no stinking SUV's in the glorious 1970s. And not that this was a good thing, but seat belt use was purely optional.

Not only were seat belts optional, but steering wheels and dashboards were solid metal, and windshields were not shatterproof glass. It was an efficient way to eliminate morons from the gene pool.
