I think that's a winner. I didn't know who #2, #4, #6 and #8 were.

Still an astounding scoring record that has never--and will never--be approached.

Big Earl was one of my earliest football heroes. What makes this highlight even better is that Vin Scully was on the play-by-play.

Ted Williams Do not know Mickey Mantle Orlando Cepeda Roberto Clemente Do not know Willie Mays Casey Stengle Joe DiMaggio Do not know Jackie Robinson Babe Ruth
...............I didn't know the contest was over
By the way, I just missed by one year playing college football with Dan Pastorini who is the quarterback handing off to Earl Campbell. He was the one helping recruit me and a couple of my teammates. Didn't do them any good..................Luca

Still an astounding scoring record that has never--and will never--be approached. I read somewhere that someone went back and reviewed all his game films to see how far he was shooting from. They didn't have three-point shots in those days but if they did he actually would have averaged somewhere around 55 points per game

Another bizarre fact about Maravich is that he had a highly unusual cardiac defect: he was born without a left coronary artery.
We have 3 primary coronary arteries normally. The left main coronary artery splits into the left anterior descending and the left circumflex. There is a third called the right coronary artery. Since he was missing the left main coronary artery, that means he had only the usually smaller right coronary artery to supply his entire heart with oxygen.
People with that abnormality generally die at a young age. They do not as a rule go on to be legendary NBA stars. Nobody understands how he was able to accomplish such aerobic output with such a defective heart. This alone is just as astonishing as his basketball career was.

I think that's Carew, Grich, and Lynn.
Grich used to coach youth baseball for Tustin the same time my boy was playing.

Didn't they all play for the California Angels before they became identity confused?
Grich had a HOF mustache.

Yes they did. Here is a story about Grich that I don't think I have shared here.
Grich was a known hound-dog. Wwhen he would come off the field, he would constantly scan the lower levels of the stands for beautiful women and have the ushers deliver notes with phone numbers to them between innings. When Jim Fergosi became manager mid season of 1978, the players were unsure of what kind of manager he was going to be - harsh, free wheeling, whatever. To set the tone, Fergosi called a meeting before the first game he was set to manage and laid out what he expected. He said he wasn't big on club house meetings, that this was likely going to be the only one all year and that he had only 1 rule - play as hard as you can all the time.
Well, the next day, news got out that Fergosi wanted another clubhouse meeting before the 2nd game he was to manage. The players gathered in the clubhouse and Fergosi addressed them. He said he had forgotten that he had a 2nd rule. As the players listened, Fergosi said "The 2nd rule is you don't hit on the wife of the manager", at which time he flipped a baseball with a phone number written on it to Grich. Grich had noticed Mrs. Fergosi the night before in the stands and just thought it was a possible future conquest. The clubhouse exploded in laughter & Grich just shrugged his shoulders as he smiled.

Grich may have just shrugged and smiled, but it should be noted that year was his worst as an Angel. Maybe Fregosi put the fear of God into him for the entire season.
