How can you make judgement with video quality like that... worse than trying to identify the guy stealing a Slurpee with a 7-11 cam!

Looked like the ball wasn't possessed completely by white all the way through the ground. Not as easy to see as the non-fumble call last night.

I watched it over and over, and stopped and started it over and over, and changed my mind multiple times. It could even have been ruled incomplete, as the ball did seem to touch the ground before either man could get control of it. IMHO.

And having neither the luxury of taking ten minutes to think about it, nor replay. Brutal spot to be in.

And having neither the luxury of taking ten minutes to think about it, nor replay. Brutal spot to be in. This is where the use or introduction of "technology" to make a call has confused the game as many a replay shows more possibilities of what happened through review after review after review. I thought we were safe at "conclusive" and "without a doubt". Yet like everything, I see more and more interpretation finding its way in, or how one wants to see it. Overall, the use of replay and technology has made more catches (old school catch) a non catch. I mean seriously we have time outs with 7 refs and people in NYC looking at the possibility a single blade of grass may have aided in the support of the ball which would nullify that the receiver was 99.999999999999999% is control and support of that ball without any aid from the grass blade.

I agree 100%, SK. Every game is largely decided by dozens and dozens of physical mistakes, missed assignments and overly emotional reactions. Practically using the Supreme Court to decide potential officiating errors is ludicrous. Let the call on the field stand and eliminate video reviews. The good teams will get over a blown call and deal with it. It's just a football game, not a Mars landing, and in the grand scheme of things, pretty damned unimportant.
Unless the blown call goes against Mater Dei.

My facetiousness aside, the gravity assigned to judgement calls is ridiculous. Not even constitutional amendments and Supreme Court decisions have their wording parsed and analyzed as much as the "in possession" rule. Let officials be human and let the players play. The strike zone graphic overlay in major league baseball proves that umpires blow almost 30% of all ball-and-strike calls, but there's not a United Nations review of every pitch.

You're joking, right? The grief those officials take from fans and coaches is well beyond ridiculous.

Well, in the least Bick you have created a thread for Zebra to chime in on......!
I think my gripe at the HS level is how many per game are called.... again I really think you could find a reason to throw a flag on almost every play. I know the NFL keeps track of penalties/avg. per game. Right now that Total for both teams combined is just under 8 flags per game or around 4 per team per game. Are the players just better at what they do and have more discipline? Or are the NFL refs just more apt to not have a decision in the flow and outcome of the games which comes from the top down. You would think @bick, that the wrath these HS refs get they would follow suit and make calls that are beyond obvious and beyond a reasonable doubt and stay away from near calls that get them the wrath from coaches, parents, fans and players.

I think it's a function of easier access to replay on Hudl or hand held video cameras disguised as smart phones. That and a society that seems consumed with the idea of BEING a victim, instead of over-coming the prospect of becoming one.

I watched it a few times and stopped it before seeing the official call... From the captured video angle, I said TD - DB never possessed the ball long enough, as it then passed into the WRs arms. But its such a bang band play, and without replay at HS level those judgement calls are always scrutinized especially after seeing all the video angles later that night via social media. Too bad they called it an INT..
