Huntly is an Aliso alum .. go figure. He doesn't have his facts straight as far as what WE on the field saw as far as illegal formations. What a putz. I've said too much, back to the zebra den for me ... have a great season all.

I’d like to have a film session with some refs sometime. I don’t think the good ones know how bad some of the others are. Last week in the Los Al/Harbor game a corner got flagged for unnecessary roughness for a perfect form tackle during which the receiver fumbled. Then, in an even more obvious perfect tackle, got flagged again. He said “what”, and the referee called him for unsportsmanlike. 30 yards and he did nothing wrong.

Zebra has always been objective when it comes to officiating IMO.

The side judge on Edison’s sideline threw 9 penalties against Newport in the first 9 minutes of the game. I think it was 12-0 or 13-1 by the end of the game. And their was a clear pass interference on his sideline committed by Edison on his sideline that he did not throw near the end of the game. The little man costed Newport the game imho.

Hello all ... Registration is OPEN for membership into the Orange County Football Officials Association. Last year was a great recruiting year for us as we had 32 new officials and 24 decided to renew their membership, but they still need more officials. Added to the overload already, flag football has added more games and schools. Registration for the 2024 Season is officially open to all at ocfoa.org/Go to our web address and follow the registration tab instructions. This season the association dues are broken in to three categories: 1. First Year officials $95 which includes both Flag and tackle. Assignor fees are included in Tackle but are additional for Flag 2. Returning or Transferring officials $180 Which includes Tackle and Flag is free. Assignor fees are included in Tackle but are additional for Flag 3. Flag only officials $95 Which is flag only for returning officials. Does not include assignor fees. Those officials who are on crews are requested to register by April 25th. This is being done to allow crew chiefs to backfill your position if you elect to not return. Late fees will begin June 30th. Game fee are $140 for Varsity games, $90 for others. Flag pays $67.50 for Varsity and 61.25 for others. Most flag games are double headers. ocfoa.org/become-a-orange-county-football-official/On another note, this is my final season officiating in Southern California. I have retired from my job at the end of 2023 and am leaving this debacle they call California. Heading to northern Neveda, Carson City and maybe officiating up there next year If I move before the summer my intention is to make a weekly trip down south and do my games on Thursdays and Fridays. I've given up my JC schedule as I don't want to hang out on Saturday's. This is my 25 season and I'm not as mobile as I used to be even two years ago. Age pops up fast and I've never been one to do a job just to do it. I've got to be my best every game I officiate, the players deserve it. I also am taking some time to just enjoy some time to myself. My kids are all living their lives and given my survival last year from a sudden cardiac arrest (Alive Day is Jan. 6 2023) , I wanna get out and do some other bucket list things. My recovery was amazing, I played in a bunch of paintball tourneys 3 months after and had a full season of tackle and flag football. My ticker is stronger than ever and I'm going to get busy living. So, I need someone to take my place. You, your kids, your grandkids, get em out there ... it's a good payday now. Hope all is well with my banned brothers ...

Great hearing from you Zebs, always appreciate your dedication and honesty in our beloved sport. Not always easy to do, most of us here know that all too well. Wow, another Cali-Exodus. I think of it often myself. I've always entertained the idea of officiating, think I would enjoy it, however it would get in the way of my fandom for my team, missing all their games would not be an option. For now whether in the stands or on the sidelines, I'll be keeping my Sea King crown on for awhile! Good Luck in Carson City!

I'm assuming/hoping that you will still check in with us from time to time, this season and maybe even after your move. So glad to celebrate your survival and recovery from that cardiac arrest. Take care of yourself Zebra.

Wow Zebra. Huge story about your heart attack. What a sobering thought, and love your response to it.
Always appreciate your contributions here, and I know we'll keep in touch after you get out of Dodge. Actually looking forward to some inside stories of times you were on the field next to some of the players and coaching staffs over the years.

Most of the parents I've heard over the years seem to think they've got a better vantage point there than the zebras on the field.
