More rules to benefit the offense. SMH. But maybe they'll call holding 15% of the times it occurs rather than the 5% that currently exists. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I think that's just a guess based on YOUR "extensive" officiating experience and its way off ... but you probably know that. It's the same rule as in NCAA, just so you know. But you probably know that also.

With the season upon us, I'll be hibernating in the Zebra den but still watching. If you have any questions, complaints, concerns or just want to vent, send it via Private Message and I'll do my best to answer, although realize sometimes you may not like the answer. Good luck to all teams this season! Starting my 24th season with Santa Margarita and West (Salt Lake City) ... have fun!

I have a question. Why did they change the rule on spot fouls like holding? Seems like offenses have enough advantages.

The only spot foul changed is the holding call behind the LOS. Falls in line with NCAA rules (which is the way we will start going in the next few years, more college mechanics). It also simplifies the "all but one principle" we use on foul enforcement. Remember, all rule changes are brought to the table by coaches and administrators, we just enforce them.

Hey Zebra... Who is supposed to control the snap while the white hat is giving the penalty signal?
Also, is the white hat supposed to position himself behind the QB or in between the QB and the slot receiver?
See Play #124 - Western v. Los Al

Saw that game at the friendly confines of Handel Stadium. The official on the near sideline was, by far, the worst official I’ve ever seen. He should not be allowed to do Varsity games in the future. The white hat overruled him a couple of times but it wasn’t enough.

Los Al Umpire and HL should walk off the enforcement while the white hat is giving the penalty details. Umpire stands over the ball until the Referee is in position. R 's position is on the QB's throwing hand side, 15-18 yds deep and looks across the formation to the opposite G and T.

Cypress v CDM had the same crew from what I heard. And the results were much the same. Game took forever again because of the flag fest. Two of the longest games I’ve heard of.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Ironic you brought this up as I usually bite my tongue when it comes to complaining about referees. Yet you are spot on here, I remember just past 10 pm alot of parents started grumbling at what time it was. There were plenty "this must be the longest game ever" comments coming from the Sea King stands. I can attest & yes the flag festival as well as the time it took to discuss, debate, decide, act on every penalty was pure torture.

Zebra- what is the reroute rule in high school football. As far as I know there is no 5 yard rule. Some questions are coming up about when contact is legal or not. I haven’t seen any rule changes. What’s the deal?
