Its not often you get to put this out there, but the ref crew at the CDM-Alemany game were great. They really let the guys play and stayed out of the way, wish I could have thanked them. Maybe Zebra knows some on the crew? They did do a great job. Well officiated game. They were an IE crew from what my crew chief told me.

How many of you have officiated? I have always thought about, just can't pry myself away from being the spectator and fan and becoming employed to watch the game.......

Other than keeping score at a bowling alley, being a sports official at the city of Lakewood parks & rec was my first job. Did the 3 main sports for 2 years.
Great experience. You learn how to be assertive, decisive, quick thinking, handling adversity and criticism.

I started at age 12 umpiring with my dad. I coached football so I pretty much physically hated football officials until I actually did the job. Wish I had started sooner. Have officiated football, wrestling, lacrosse, softball, indoor football, volleyball and hockey. Anytime anyone needs any info .. hit me up. OCFOA has a Veteran's program called Battlefields to Ballfields that will qualify you for OCFOA scholarships to go to a camp or use for uniforms. Otherwise, we also waive the registration fee for freshmen in the form of a voucher for a uniform vendor. Really need to have more sports officials ... without us it's just recess.
I'll throw this out there, next season, if anyone would like to shadow me for a game, contact me and we can work something out. It would be like a ride along ... show up for pre-game, follow me or another official on the field (sideline) and do the post game huddle. Hear the sound of the coaches screaming holding every play, feel the sarcasm of the bench when they don't agree with the call, smell the raw hatred you bring forth on the coaching assistants while they lose their $#!t. I wish I could say all that in the "coming attractions" movie voice.
Just do it ...

I have no problem with officials being blind, as long as they're not blind for one side and 20/20 for the other.

Everything I hear is to the contrary, and my hearing is excellent ... LOL No Bick, we usually just pick the team on the left of the white hat.

You guys should be called bats. You're blind and you hear everything.

Registration for all returning, transferring and new officials is now open. If you have officiated high school football for any association in the past, please register at: ocfoa.org/registration/ . The dues for 2020 remain $160. All officials must be covered by official’s liability insurance either through NASO or NFHS for the entirety of the 2020 season. If you have existing insurance through NASO or NFHS, be prepared to supply your membership number. NFHS coverage obtained through OCFOA last season will not cover you for this season, you must renew your coverage. Once again, coverage through NFHS will cost $25 and will be added to your membership dues if you do not have existing officials liability insurance through NFHS or NASO. Membership in NASO includes the necessary insurance. New officials can register here: ocfoa.org/first-year-registration/ . I encourage you to join the brotherhood of football officials. Dues for NEW officials is $90. We have multiple payment options available. If you have any questions or issues with regard to payment or the registration process itself, please let me know. Zebra wants YOU!!

I have not. but your question brought to my mind a friend of bygone years. Jay Cavanaugh had a brain tumor that took his life a few years back. He loved officiating at High School Football games. I’d call it his passion. thanks for the memory of that zebra, Zebra.
