(My daughter asked me in all seriousness if we were going to close our office like other businesses). I had a dental appointment tomorrow, but I received a call this morning postponing it because the ADA has ordered dental offices to close for two weeks. No problem, I have a string if you have a door knob......!

Newson CALLED for this not ORDERED IT!!] Thank God. I was beginning to panic. Seriously, how rational is it to start a panic and then close down the most effective treatment for it?...............Luca

OK all you minds of smarts and wit...., what authority do cities and mayors have as well as health organizations for forcing private business like bars to close? I know Newsome came out CALLING for but GARCETTI (MAYOR) signed an executive order... hmmm? Pasadena Mayor was out of country and heard the City Manager just did it, mandatory closure of bars. What power, jurisdiction to they stand behind on this...., anyone understand how this works? Is this Marshall Law!

SK80, I don't know the answer to your question, but I do know that I will test the limits of any quarantine forced upon me while I am still healthy. I still have not changed any portion of my life's routine yet, not because I am trying to be obstinate, but rather because I am healthy and have always practiced good hygiene and social distancing. I did enjoy the lack of freeway traffic today.
I was in 4 different customers homes today, interesting the varying reactions. The 2 conservative customers were questioning if the actions being taken were an overreach, while the 2 liberal customers were concerned that Trump is not doing enough and were focused on making sure no one passed the virus on to them. I'm pretty sure the opinions on the reaction to this split right down political ideological lines.

Agree, as my general view from all my life experiences is those on the left act on emotions or are moved to do or not do things because of them, I find most conservative less emotional and more pragmatic. My Libertarian friends or those whom I have known are the ones whom usually fly in the face of such an instance as this....., its self governing, "I'm healthy", and do not fringe on my freedoms which usually ends up in not following the herds...

There is a bright side to everything shutting down for the Coronavirus: the incessant Leftist indoctrination of young people at our nation's colleges and universities has been put on indefinite hold.
So we've got that going for us.....

I'm not going to lie... the panic didn't hit me until today when eight of our job sites were closed due to "possible coronavirus exposure"
Luca, are you a doctor?

I'm not a lawyer but perhaps the businesses have a license to operate issued by the municipality?
No, it's not Marshall law...it's not even martial law.

In my opinion, CITIES and even COUNTIES calling for this are taking advantage of a crisis (never let a good crisis go to waste), and are overstepping. However, in the state of Illinois, all this crap and much more power IS given to our Governor under The Illinois Emergency Management Agency Actbit I cannot find any source to tell me if... or how... this act supersedes the U.S. Constitution.

I think there is an undercurrent of conspiratorial thinking here. I doubt very seriously that any government entities are using this episode to expand their power and set precedents. People are doing what they think is best to put an end to a pandemic, and I don't think the motivation is anything other than that. I think a whole lot of them are overreacting (and possibly overstepping their authority), but not because they're trying to institute One World Government.....................................Luca

But here in “God’s” country, politicians are doing just that. the Illinois Emergency Management Agency Act gives the GOVERNOR the authority, during a declared emergency such as this, to confiscate property, ban sales of firearms, gasoline, and alcohol. Our Governor has not done any of that. We have two cities, however, that have given their mayors that authority.
