Right message, wrong way of going about it.

The tragedy with some rogue heads, is that they twist the insights of certain savants for their own nefarious needs. Jaques Ellul was a prolific existentialist author who predicted most of the ills and evils we're all experiencing today:

I know with politics and where we are at today, its hard to grieve for the opposition, but with due respect...
I chose to not start a Sen. Diane Feinstein thread so not start a political post regarding her passing.

I disagreed with almost all of her political positions, but I'm still sad that she has died. And I think the term "due respect" is entirely appropriate, because it allows everyone to decide for themselves just how much respect she is due.

I will always respect the position, that is the office. What I am losing respect for today is how many are gaining that position or office. I too mostly stood against what she often stood for. She was however a bit of the old mold, one that did at times in the least listen to the opposing side of the table. Reagan and O' Neil, Clinton and Gingrich, even in opposition they could find some sense of balance for the common good. These stalwarts are a dying if not dead (literally) breed in politics.

I think the goal of almost all politicians is to get elected, get re-elected and stay in office, and then run for higher office when the time is right. The way to do those things used to be to point to your accomplishments as proof that you are the right person for the job. That's not true anymore. Now the way to win and stay in office is to be loud, crude, insulting, vulgar, flashy and outrageous. Accomplishment has become absolutely irrelevant

Yes, I too opposed nearly everything she stood for. However, it seemed that she mellowed in her old age. That often happens as people age, How does that old adage go?... If you're not a liberal when you are young, you have no heart; If you aren't a conservative when you are old, you have no brain. Plus she may have seemed more reasonable because she was contrasted by being around progressive idiots like AOC who started her career by trying to take over Feinstein's office on her first day in office. Or was that Pelosi's office?
