So the black coward that ran down those women and children from behind in racist Waukesha is not dead because...? and HE wasn't defending himself, so "why?" indeed.

I just watched the Tucker Carlson interview (DVR'd) from last night. Amazed at how level headed and pragmatic this young kid, now man was....is. He even addressed the President, whom called him a White Supremist in respectful fashion.

Little wonder he's as respectful and aware as he is.

He couldn't have worked as an EMT when he was 17.
I think the verdict in this trial was absolutely correct. It was as clear a case of self-defense as any in recent memory. But a minor taking a semiautomatic weapon to a riot is incredibly stupid, and he intentionally put himself in a position where deadly self-defense became necessary.
When I was 13, I had to take a Wood Shop class in middle school. I was working on a little bookrack when by buddy at the next table asked to use my chisel. I tossed it to him underhand, and the shop teacher saw it. He called me in front of the class and swatted my butt three times as hard as he could with a wooden paddle, and he told me that's for doing something so stupid. Needless to say, I was never that stupid again.
What Rittenhouse did was ten times more stupid. If I had my way, he'd be taken into a police department interrogation room, made to drop his pants, and get ten swats to his bare ass delivered by the burliest cop in the department. Maybe then he wouldn't do such a stupid thing again. I didn't.

I don't care whether or not he worked as an EMT. That is irrelevant to the point I made.
I don't see Rittenhouse as "stupid." Maybe ill-advised to carry a gun, but if I was to ever go to a riot, I would definitely take some form of self-defense with me. I would probably not carry a gun because it has been way too many years since the Navy taught me to handle them correctly, but Rittenhouse was trained and it WOULD be stupid to go to a place where people were being assaulted and buildings were being destroyed without taking some kind of self-protection.
He did go there intentionally, of course. Something, as I said, I would not do. But he was trained to render first aid and that was what he SAID he was looking to do (whether or not he can be believed).
Instead of getting swats on his butt, I think his punishment has been the last year he has endured (and possibly the harassment he has yet to endure).

I don't see Rittenhouse as "stupid." What he did was stupid. It is stupid to ever go to a riot. And the only people who should head in that direction and be armed are law enforcement personnel, not some high school kid pretending he's Rambo. I edited your sentence to make it more accurate.

Dave, that's the second or third time you've made a snarky comment like that when I disagreed with you. Am I the only one here who can have and express an opinion?

It is not your comment(s) to which I respond in that way. I take exception to how you discount opinions that are contrary to yours. I have little patience for condescension. So when you condescend, expect condescension in return. Although, now that I write it out, it occurs to me maybe that is not how you intended it. I have to be careful when we all only interact in writing without the visual clues. If that was the case, I apologize.

MDDad, calling what Kyle did is stupid is nothing more than opine, risky, yes. Walking into a danger zone, risky, yes. Stupid, no..., men with real conviction think differently. In the end, Kyle was right, the rest, WRONG.

Sorry, SK, but you can't convince me that a minor deciding to take a semi-automatic weapon to an active riot scene was the right or the smart thing to do.

Put it this way, how many of us dads would be OK with their 17 year old taking a gun to a riot?
One thing to be at your home or business and defend it, but completely another to go out like that with a weapon.

One thing to be at your home or business and defend it, but completely another to go out like that with a weapon. When I lived in So Cal, I would never have understood a parent who would allow such a thing. When I got here, I noticed country kids are different from most city kids. Country kids hunt, drive tractors, many are home schooled, get up at 5:00 or 6:00 most mornings and have responsibilities around the house. A lot of them do some volunteering in the community. They're not hicks, by any means, just different from the teens around me here in metropolis. So, I agree with your perspective on a parent allowing a 17 year old city kid. But while I don't condone it, I can understand it from a country kid's parent.

Literally everyone here has acknowledged it wasn't smart: It was risky, it was something we wouldn't do... The issue is, you called it "stupid" and that is something on which we disagree.
