Nice win for you guys over Cypress in the finals. Thanks Bick, it was a great inaugural day out at CDM's "Sean Fenton Field" our new facility, the participating school coaches had nothing but praise for how the event went.... Corona del Mar football wins its Battle at the Beach passing tournament Sea Kings defeated Cypress in 7-on-7 event final
NEWPORT BEACH – Summer football passing tournaments can help a team’s quarterbacks and receivers get more synchronized.
Winning the 7-on-7 tournament is a fine bonus.
Corona del Mar succeeded in both ways Friday at the Battle at the Beach passing tournament at Corona del Mar High. The Sea Kings defeated Cypress 30-14 in the tournament’s championship game and their quarterback David Rasor enjoyed the chance to improve quarterback-receiver timing.
Rasor (6-1, 194), the Sunset League offensive back of the year last season as a junior, connected with senior receiver Cooper Hoch on two deep touchdown passes in the win over Cypress in the finals.
Corona del Mar scored on every possession as the Sea Kings went 4-1 in the tournament. Their loss was to La Habra 29-28 in pool play. The Sea Kings went 6-0 in a passing tournament at San Luis Obispo last week.
The tournament, in its first year, was an eight-team event that included Aliso Niguel, Corona del Mar, Cypress, Dana Hills, Foothill, La Habra, San Clemente and Tesoro. In the championship semifinals Corona del Mar defeated Tesoro and Cypress defeated San Clemente.
My take on the day:
CDM, Cypress & La Habra all looked impressive. CDM far and away was most impressive on offense, literally unstoppable. CDM scored all day on big plays, Cooper Hoch was the MVP of the day if there was one. Defensively they have room to improve, although they were gassed as the offense repeatedly scored on first plays of possession. Runner up Cypress beat La Habra and San Clemente, kudos to the Centurions. @ Bick, isn't the QB there a transfer in from Los Al?
I didn't get to watch San Clemente early as they were in other half of the tournament bracket with Dana Hills, Tesoro and Foothill. For the most part they edged out their opponents in close games. When they got to the Semi's I was pretty sure we should see a CDM vs SC Final but the Centurions took them out. CDM and Cypress played a close opening pool game with CDM taking the win but in the final it was a blowout win for the Sea Kings.
Cypress, San Clemente, Tesoro still looking at QB competitions, CDM also platooned ever other possession between QB's Sr. Rasor and Jr. Annett.
Note: CDM played without phenom sophomore to be TE Zach Guiliano 6'5" 225 lbs. Looks like the next Mark Redman.

The Cypress, Downey and Inglewood starting Qs were all Griffins.
Thanks. I'm surprised we did as well as we did on Sat. Lost our #2 wr to Bosco, and our #3 was up at Wash on a visit. Our #4,some newcomers and incoming frosh to go along with Lemon were the receiving bunch.
Should be a nice run at Bosco next weekend. Look out for Carlsbad. They've got a legit Q... Probably the best passer out there.

Ya I've seen Carlsbad at 7v7's, my impression last year was these guys are big! Looks to me SD Section football is on rise....

If you want to see a 7-on-7 team that really passes the eyeball test, you should take a look at Mater Dei. No, not that one. I'm talking about the one in Chula Vista. Very imposing looking kids.
And it also looks like Santa Margarita has suddenly discovered that a lot of African-American kids are really good at football, because that program is also loaded with good-looking athletes that don't look like past Santa Margarita teams.

Interesting observation. Yes that other MD has some athletes. So you saying something like over @ SM "if you can't beat 'em join 'em"? Don't get mad if other privates steal your blueprint, you need the competition.

I heard the very same thing about MDCV. We had them lined up had the Florida game fallen through.

I have my doubts that the kids coming in will be able to cut it academically or socially without a lot of help.

From the teams I've seen, Bosco, Los Alamitos and Mater Dei should be the favorites at Edison, but watch out for Rancho Cucamonga. They are very athletic and very good.
