Help me out here... I don't think it was much of a trick to take a city like Kabul when the duly elected government AND the military had already left. no it was easy, thats the point. why so easy after 20 years and BILLIONS of re-enforcement and training. EGGS'actly! but the Taliban are all celebrating like they won Kabuls Got Talent... |

no it was easy, thats the point. why so easy after 20 years and BILLIONS of re-enforcement and training. Because American dollars can provide the Afghan military with training, uniforms, arms, ammunition, tanks, jets and fuel. What it can't buy them is testicles. |

Maybe applying Western fighting tactics and ideals to a clearly different culture is the wrong approach. Arguably inappropriate tactics are certainly a contributing factor, but even tactics that are laser-focused can't compensate for a military utterly unwilling to fight. |

And undoubtably being compensated by the Taliban. Perhaps they are unwilling to fight and die for other reasons. I think it's possible that the average Afghani isn't universally fond of us either. What with drone strikes that occasionally wipe out a wedding party, to private contractors spraying their streets and citizens with automatic weapons fire with barely any condemnation much less punishment, to war criminals being pardoned by our president it all adds up to a situation where they might not like us all that much, and who could blame them? |
