My point was that if any Republican other than Trump were the nominee, the campaign would necessarily default to being about Biden's record as president. That is how virtually all previous elections involving incumbents have been waged. If Trump is the candidate, the media will make it all about him, and Biden's record will almost fade into irrelevance. And Trump's ego is so big that he will not allow it to be about anything other than himself. I still think he may be the only legitimate Republican who can lose an election to Sleepy Joe this year. again, you underestimate the media making the devil out of any opposition candidate....

With regard to DeSantis' campaign, looks can be misleading. It has been said on this forum that DeSantis is basically Trump minus all of Trump's baggage. So the voters DeSantis would appeal to, were already locked into Trump's camp.
I believe that if Trump had decided not to run, DeSantis would be winning this race by a huge margin. He should not have run this year. 2028 was/is his time to run.

MD: Romney has an R after his name. The people that vote for Trump want a change, not just a change in the letter after the name. Policies trump ego, IMO.

The people that vote for Trump want a change, not just a change in the letter after the name. That's certainly true for some Trump voters. But many others are like fanatical Taylor Swift fans. No matter how insipid her music is, they're still crazy about her anyway.

I think the majority like his policies. If we are looking to pull Democrat voters, Romney is the solution.

LOL. Romney is the worst candidate. My comment was pointed at the idea it is all about winning, at all costs. If you want to bring in votes from the leftist globalist Democrats, then vote for a leftist like Romney or Hailey. Otherwise vote for Trump. Who cares about his ego?

The mystery is solved, thanks for the explanation.
