Reading lots of negative comments about Arte Moreno after he nixed the trade with the Dodgers.
I don't follow the halos all that closely, so can you guys share what this is all about? He seems like a guy willing to open the pocketbook to attract and keep talent.

He seems like a guy willing to open the pocketbook to attract and keep talent. I don’t know if I can put this simply, but <deep breath> there was a huge, blockbuster trade deal involving the Dodgers, the Twins and the Red Sox, a minor part of which was the Dodgers were going to give Joc Pederson (an outfielder who’s ability in the field and in the batters box would make our outfield unbeatable and make up for trading away Kole Calhoun), and Ross Stripling, that starting pitcher we so desperately need, while we would give up Rengifo (who everyone thought was a goner anyway) and a couple of minor league prospects. Everything on our end was a “go” and we were really (all) just waiting on the Dodger/Red Sox Deal to go through. Angels fans really believed we needed that strong pitcher for the starting rotation (Stripling’s ERA LAST HEAR WAS 3.47, and he was an All Star in 2018J, and Pederson was icing on the cake. Arte, who should just stay behind the checkbook and not involve himself in the trade talks or negotiations, got upset at some kind of delay on the Red Sox part so he nixed the whole deal, opting, instead, to cut his own deals with Minnesota and Boston... which, as I sit here, are not clear what those are... or if they’ve even happened yet. With Shoei Ohtani not joining the starting rotation until May, the Angels will likely start the season with just a 4-man rotation which could work against us if starters get burned out early...

There is no way the Angels will go back to the 1960's and use a four-man rotation. If they did, those four rag arms would fall off before Ohtani was ready to return. It's more likely they'll go with five or six starters until at least mid-May. Right now, I'd guess those five are Julio Teheran, Dylan Bundy, Andrew Heaney, Griffin Canning and Jaime Barria. And that group wouldn't even strike terror in the Rookie League.

You guys talk about the Angels the way Harry Doyle did about the Indians in Major League.

I also believe Maddon will put the kibosh on the idea and they would ONLY consider such an idea because neither Eppler nor Moreno have a clue.

So many individual subplots, and everyone of them hysterical! Even the sequel was pretty funny. I liked Wesley Snipes as Willy Mays Hayes a little better than Omar Epps, but he did a decent job. David Keith had some great one liners. Reminds me of RSM.

So, does anybody else think that Rob Manfred should be fired, and the 2017 World Series championship vacated?.............................Luca

And all the participating players should also be suspended w/o pay for at least a year--though that would likely never happen since the player's union would fight it tooth and nail.

Any players proven to have cheated should be banned for life, with the ability to apply for reinstatement in three years. If it was good enough for Shoeless Joe Jackson 101 years ago, it's good enough for Nipples Altuve.

If Pete Rose is banned for life (with which, by the way, I agree) for knowingly violating the rules, I don’t know how MLB rationalizes not exacting the same penalty on these guys.

Peter Rose did indeed violate the rules, but there is no evidence that his gambling ever influenced a single game. He didn't cheat to gain a distinct competitive advantage.

Insofar as I can see, you are absolutely correct. my position is, he knowingly broke the rules, so he has to, now, be accountable for his actions. Might be... probably is too harsh a penalty, but he should’a thought of that before he transgressed. however, my point in bringing him up is, Pete Rose broke the rules BUT never influenced the outcome of a game because of it. the Houston boys broke the rules AND arguably influenced the outcome of many games because of it. If Rose is banned for life, the Houston boys deserve at least that.
