It is tragic that his final year has to overlap Maddens first year.
OR
Maybe, in the off season, he has his head surgically removed from his <BEEEEP> and he will suddenly make competent choices.
by the way, just read the Angels declined to pick up Kole Calhoun’s option...

Yikes, that's a risky move. They're giving up on a gold glove right fielder who hit 33 homers last year to put all their eggs in 20-year-old Jo Adell's basket. The only sure thing is they're saving $14 million on not picking up Calhoun's option, so maybe that's Gerrit Cole money.

I cannot believe anyone who has seen Calhoun’s throw from right field to almost anywhere in the playing field would favor this move...

Unless he's working under constraints we don't know about, Billy Eppler is incompetent. He knows he needs to completely rebuild the starting pitching staff, so my guess is he's already negotiating big contracts with Garrett Richards, C.J. Wilson, Jered Weaver, Matt Shoemaker and Joe Blanton. Rumor has it he has Nolan Ryan ready to suit up.....

I loved Nolan Ryan... my sister baby-sat for him when he used to live across the street from Duke’s grandmother. but, no. Even today, he would be too expensive for Eppler.

Getting word that Arte Moreno has agreed to terms, and WHAT terms they were, with Anaheim to keep the Angels in Anaheim through 2050, with an option to extend to 2065... but here’s the kicker: Anaheim ALSO agreed to sell Moreno ALL 153 acres of Anaheim Stadium for the bargain basement price of $325 million. No word yet about whether Moreno will build a new stadium on the property, or leave the Big A as it is, although he HAS already met with HRE architects...
So, my guess is, Long Beach has either been a victim or a willing participant in all those “move the team to LB” rumors swirling around for the last year or so. Anaheim has been a little reluctant to negotiate with Moreno so (IMO) needed sufficient stimulation to wrap up the deal. I doubt the Angels were ever really going to Long Beach.

Maybe he should have spent that $325 million on players rather than an old stadium and a parking lot. He's starting to look more like Frank McCourt.

As a Long Beach resident I can say that the last thing we need in the LBC is a pro sports team. And there's no room for such a thing--the city's been built out for decades now.
I like the Angels but they belong in Anaheim.

(1) The notion of any city or area being "built out" is anathema in this state. We always have room for more illegal aliens and homeless. Just ask the developers and their puppet politicians.
(2) I agree about keeping the Angels in Anaheim. The city would be better served by keeping the Angels and moving Servite to Long Beach.

(2) I understand that Mater Dei opened a satellite campus in Rancho Cucamonga in January 2018, but it only lasted for 12 months......because it ran out of Dollars.

Well, the Angels and Dodgers both lost out on Gerrit Cole, who went to the Yankees for $324 million. Personally, I think the Angels would have been smarter to spend $300 million on two #2 pitchers than one ace, but that's water under the bridge. They consoled themselves by getting Anthony Rendon, one of the best third basemen in the game, while the Dodgers got dick.
And it turns out Gerrit Cole is quite the liar. Since the end of the World Series, he's been talking about how he grew up just a couple miles from Angel Stadium, how he went to nearby Orange Lutheran, and how he was always an Angels fan. Yet since he signed with the Yankees, it's been all about how he was a huge Yankee fan while he was growing up. Hope he's still worth $36 million a year when he's 37.

OK, as it turns out, I agree with you, but then I’m still smarting from that whole Albert Pujols deal...
BUT, let’s say Eppler is in this group and agrees with us, and asks Us who he should go after...
There are still some good arms left out there and we (well, and the Dodgers) are rumored to be looking at one or two.
Baumgardner is available But pricey, even before the bidding really starts so I’d avoid him.
In no particular order, currently or soon available: 1. Trevor Bauer, Indians 2019 stats: 3.67 ERA, 4.39 FIP, 3.04 SO/BB 2. Zack Greinke, Diamondbacks 2019 stats: 2.95 ERA, 3.20 FIP, 7.13 SO/BB 3. Mike Minor, Rangers 2019 stats: 2.73 ERA, 3.82 FIP, 2.75 SO/BB 4. Matthew Boyd, Tigers 2019 stats: 4.13 ERA, 3.55 FIP, 6.67 SO/BB 5. Robbie Ray, Diamondbacks 2019 stats: 3.92 ERA, 4.24 FIP, 2.67 SO/BB 6. Madison Bumgarner, Giants 2019 stats: 3.65 ERA, 3.69 FIP, 4.88 SO/BB 7. Marcus Stroman, Blue Jays 2019 stats: 3.25 ERA, 3.72 FIP, 2.59 SO/BB 8. Caleb Smith, Marlins 2019 stats: 3.47 ERA, 4.33 FIP, 3.61 SO/BB 9. Zack Wheeler, Mets 2019 stats: 4.69 ERA, 3.66 FIP, 3.82 SO/BB 10. Aaron Sanchez, Blue Jays 2019 stats: 6.26 ERA, 5.50 FIP, 1.41 SO/BB
And that obviously doesn’t include anyone a given team might be thinking of dealing.
Thoughts?

Well, of the unrestricted free agent starting pitchers still available, my top six would be
(1) Hyun-Jin Ryu At 32, I'd only offer him four years, but his ERA over the last two years is 2.21, and nobody comes close to that. (2) Madison Bumgarner Still only 29, and he eats innings, which is what the Angels need to avoid killing there bullpen for the umpteenth year in a row. (3) Julio Teheran Only 28, his two-year ERA is 3.88, and he's another innings eater. (4) Gio Gonzalez At 33, a bit more of a risk than the others. (5) Wade Miley 32 years old, 19-8 and 3.52 over the last two years. (6) Ivan Nova 32. I don't like his 4.47 two-year ERA, but he's another guy that can be counted on to throw a lot of innings, and there's more downstream value in that than most people realize.
