Bick and SK, the debate you're having has been going on for as long as their have been multiple divisions in high school football. The truth is that Young, Garbers and Munoz all put up ridiculous numbers that will be hard for anyone to match. But it's also the truth that one of them played in Division 1 against a national schedule, one played in Division 3 and one in Division 10(?).
One way to clear the question might be to ask: If Young and Garbers were placed on that Western team, would they be as successful as Munoz? I suspect they would. If Garbers and Munoz were placed on this Mater Dei team, would they be as successful as Young has been? Personally, I doubt it. My suspicion is that Munoz may not have been up to that level of competition. And I've seen Young create 40 or 50 big plays these past two years strictly because of his elusiveness and ability to extend plays. I don't think Garbers has the agility to have done that.

Their top WR is Epps, right? How many Power 5 offers does he have? One.

I guess the proving ground will be at the next level. There are mismatches all over the sport, MD has an uber professional team causing mis matches in every game. Have you gone to watch any of these? Simply standing behind MD's line is a unfair mismatch for any QB. And I stand behind what goes on in D9 and D10 is not what goes on in D1,2 or 3. The end result for the Western kid is DIII Wisconsin Luthren. The other two D1 Washington and Alabama. So ya lets debate! How many D1 high schools did the D10 team beat in 7v7? CDM beat everyone they played except SJB in the MV Tourney Final. CDM's receivers against the best DB's in the southland. Garbers and Young competed on even playing field in Elite 11, both making it. Garbers was MVP of the West Coast Oakland Tourney. There were no D10 QB's nor D10 cornerbacks. I've watched all angles of this debate presented for two seasons, from camps, to comps to the field.
Again how a QB will perform at the next level where all things will be considerably equal will be the tell tale of the tape.

Kyron Ware-Hudson has nine. Their #3 and #4 receivers also have more offers than Epps which is just silly. Sophomore CJ Williams has multiple offers from big time programs. I saw he just was offered by Georgia. And Junior receiver Dixon also has offers from schools like Notre Dame and others. IMO Dixon has not really stood out and quite frankly has underwhelmed. He has the tools so let’s hope he steps up next season.

Yes we all have played out the "what if" QB X stood behind the MD line. Garbers would have just as much control of offense if the offense was his. The styles vary, Garbers a more pure Pro-Style pocket guy and Bryce multi dimensional. The Western player, team and division were nowhere on that level. Either way to say because you played on MD everyone else is an * is ludicrous. We all argued the same equation during the Daniels years, could anybody be as good behind that national title team and line. NOPE you all said. So far post high school how did that turn out?

All I was pointing out was that Garbers and Munoz were throwing to WRs that had a huge advantage over who was covering them EVERY GAME. I don't think you can legitimately say that about Young this year. And to your point, Daniels' WR corps as a whole, had a pretty large advantage over their defenders as well.

Film study almost like a family holiday for Corona del Mar’s Ethan Garbers www.latimes.com/sports/highschool/story/2019-11-28/film-study-corona-del-mar-ethan-garbers-grace-brethren NOV. 28, 2019 7:24 PM Thanksgiving is about football and family.
Unfortunately, for the Garbers brothers, football is what kept them from being together this year on the holiday. Chase, who is California’s starting quarterback, is with the Golden Bears preparing for the team’s regular-season finale at UCLA while younger brother Ethan has his own matchup this weekend. He leads Corona del Mar High against Simi Valley Grace Brethren in the CIF Southern Section Division 3 championship game Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Newport Harbor High.
It will keep them from getting an extra film session in together because family time equals film study time for the Garbers brothers.
On brother Chase...,
"“Throwing the football around or watching film. That’s kind of how we spend time together,” Ethan said. “Whenever he comes home, we always turn on some film and and watch how college defenses work because college and high school defenses are very different. He kind of teaches me all the new things and shows me what I should be looking for and all that. He’s extremely helpful and he’s a great resource to have and I’m grateful for him.”

Garbers making a grip of plays with his feet tonight. They were unstoppable with that added dimension.
He really put the team on his back when the game was close beginning of 3rd, and made play after play in the 2nd half. Best game I've seen him play...Kudos!

Ya for some reason he has taken on his brothers persona in the run game. After the Alemany game I gave him tap on the pads and said "So you are a running back now"? He said enthusiastically, "Why not"! The CDM running game last night was stellar. RB Riley Binnquist whom wasn't even a starter half way through the season had 139 yards and Garbers added 105 and 3 rushing TD's. Combined CDM out rushed the "rushing" team with the massive line 245-226. “There’s a lot of heart in that guy,” O’Shea said of Garbers. “He’s wicked tough and an assassin as a competitor.”
O’Shea also praised the tenacity and technique of the Sea Kings’ offensive and defensive lines, who were smaller than Grace Brethren.
The offensive line of Thomas Bouda, Max Farzine, Tanner Tomlinson, Hunter Schimm and Vinny Provenza helped Corona del Mar capitalize on Grace Brethren’s alignment. The defensive line teamed with the linebackers to play a “50” front that held its own.
“They were giving us a four down linemen, one linebacker in the box,” O’Shea said of the decision to run he ball. “We’re going to take it. …We were able to control the line of scrimmage.”
On defense, Corona del Mar held Josh Henderson to 64 yards on 16 carries. The Colorado State-committed senior rushed for 273 yards and five TDs against La Habra in the semifinals.
The Sea Kings’ played a “50” defense with a five-man front and no deep safety in the secondary. The defensive line featured Charlie Mannon (190 pounds), Conner Brooks (195) and Carter Duss (210).
“We got 180-pounds guys going against 325, 350 (pounders),” O’Shea said. “They play with unbelievable pad level and technique. It’s all because of defensive coordinator Brian Pearsall.”
These were the dudes CDM pushed around...... This guy ran roughshod all over them all night......

Congrats to the Sea Kings, and on to a state championship.
However, I was a little disturbed by one graphic during the telecast last night. It said the CdM defensive line averaged 206 pounds per man. Since they will almost certainly be moved up D-1/2 next season, they'd better find a way to jack that up by 40 or 50 pounds.

CDM has never known anything but being undersized historically. Yes moving up will make it even more so.

The Grace Brethren players who weighed over 270 were major jelly bellies. The concern will be that many D-1/2 kids pushing 300 pounds are in shape, so being undersized and scrappy probably won't cut it, unless you bring in Bob Ladouceur to coach both your lines.
